That is not hard to cast and anyone playing the character closer to his real age would be different enough to let it work. This is just blatantly bad and screws the actor.

Paapa Essiedu is a great actor. I wish they gave him an appropriate role. He is not Snape. Making Snape black transforms the character and story in unsavory and ridiculous ways.

@ratiowontmis @CultureCrave In this case it's especially egregious given how the character's appearance is one of the most explicitly stated in the series, & the implications of adding race into the backstory & character interactions is rife with problems. He would have been great in a different role.

Private schools aren't great because they produce better academic and college results. They're great because of the student body selected by wealth and a competitive admissions process, which filters out stupid and disruptive people. The student body precedes academic excellence.
