Iron deficiency is an under recognized problem w/adverse impacts on morbidity & mortality. Using ⁦@CDCgov⁩ data, we found ~40% of 12-21yo females to be iron deficient(!) & this was assoc w/non White race, Hispanic ethnicity, poverty & menstruation. jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…

Reminder that BID and TID oral iron regimens are not necessary, & result in reduced iron bioavailability. Plus the side effects are worse! Daily or every-other-day dosing has improved absorption and is better tolerated. @obgmanagement #irondeficiency 🩸
