🇺🇸🇮🇷 N12: Trump’s team is pushing a fast “framework deal” with Iran, starting with a “one-month ceasefire” followed by talks on a 15-point plan. The proposal includes strict nuclear limits (no enrichment, dismantling key sites) in exchange for lifting sanctions and support for civilian nuclear projects. Israel is concerned a vague deal could let Iran “come out on top” if fighting stops before details are finalized.

Senators John Fetterman (D-PA) and Martin Heinrich (D-NM) were the only Democrats who voted to advance (and, for the final confirmation, to support) Markwayne Mullin's nomination to be Secretary of Homeland Security.

Geraldo Lunas Campos was held at Camp East Montana. A tent facility in the El Paso desert. Built in weeks. A $1.2 billion contract awarded to a company operating out of a single-family home in Virginia. He begged for days for his asthma medication. Staff refused. Then five guards held him down. One put an arm around his neck and squeezed. Until he stopped breathing. The medical examiner ruled it a homicide. Hemorrhages on his neck. Petechiae in his eyes. ICE changed their story three times. After the homicide ruling, DHS’s response was to call him a criminal. As if that’s an answer. #DemsUnited

In future history books this man will stand alongside Churchill and FDR for his courage and leadership. Putin's Russia has thrown everything they have into trying to kill him and he has never faltered or hid. He is the face of Europe against Russian aggression.

BBC correspondent admits Trump is backing down and conceding defeat. Iran threatened to obliterate Gulf desalination plants. Without water the Gulf states collapse in days. They begged Trump to stop. Total humiliation for Washington.

I grew up pulling the lever at the voting booth. Today, the Supreme Court heard a case that threatens mail-in ballots for hundreds of thousands of Americans. My full essay goes out to Democracy Docket subscribers soon. Sign up. bit.ly/4a7l1TR

Democrats have introduced numerous bills to fund TSA. Instead of working to make sure TSA agents get paid, Trump is sending armed ICE agents to replace them at airports nationwide. Republicans want this chaos to continue.

In Shigeaki Mori, a Japanese atomic bomb survivor from Hiroshima, President Obama saw the best of humanity, even while reflecting on one of our darkest chapters. Mori died Sunday at age 88. Today, we honor his example, which President Obama spoke to in 2016 when he visited Hiroshima on the 71st anniversary of America dropping the atomic bomb on that city. Among the more than 140,000 killed in Hiroshima, Mori discovered 30 years later that there were 12 American POWs. He researched the men and wrote to their families, who didn’t yet know how their loved ones had died. President Obama was the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima, and while there, he reflected on Mori’s work — how it connected people through their shared humanity, regardless of their countless differences: “We’re not bound by genetic code to repeat the mistakes of the past. We can learn. We can choose. We can tell our children a different story –- one that describes a common humanity; one that makes war less likely and cruelty less easily accepted. We see these stories in the hibakusha –- the woman who forgave a pilot who flew the plane that dropped the atomic bomb, because she recognized that what she really hated was war itself; the man who sought out families of Americans killed here, because he believed their loss was equal to his own.” In telling the story of the universality of loss, Mori set an example for us all and we are all better for his contributions.

Rest in peace, Mr. Mori. Your tireless work to honor the 12 American POWs despite your own survival of unimaginable horror showed the world what true reconciliation looks like. President Obama's words in Hiroshima ring even truer today: we can choose a different story. Thank you for reminding us that humanity transcends borders and pain.
