@RMcGreevy1301 @FrankmcnallyIT Yeas had learnt the great value of the (somewhat contrived) riot outrage from Paris riots following the surrealist play Ubu Roi performed 1896

An Irishman's Diary by my colleague @FrankmcnallyIT about the riots 100 years ago that accompanied the opening of The Plough and the Stars. Yeats' famous "you have disgraced yourselves again" speech was published in The Irish Times on February 12th, 1926, but appears as "once again a minority in Dublin had tried to disgrace the reputation of the city".

Next week marks the 110th anniversary of the tragic death of 18-month-old Herbert Lemass who was accidentally shot dead by his brother Seán Lemass in January 1916. As Lemass's daughter Maureen Haughey remarked a century later, Herbert Lemass was the first casualty of 1916. Here's a great Irish diary on the subject by @FrankmcnallyIT in today's paper and online. It also covers the death in 1916 of the other Herbert Lemass. irishtimes.com/opinion/an-iri…

What a bloody brilliant midfielder Alan McLoughlin was. The sort of player that this current #Pompey team are crying out for.
Still watch these videos back & find it tough that we can’t reminisce over his many big moments.

Delighted to share here a trailer of our recent filming-project 'The Arandora Star Sinking'. It's a documentary about memories of the tragedy by third-generation Italians in Liverpool.
Many thanks to all those involved in the filming production.

If you are an Irish citizen, I have bad news for you, Catherine Connolly is the President of your country. I did not support her, but she is my country’s President. I have contempt for people indulging in this ‘not my President’ nonsense. Our people have made their choice.

On the night we elect his successor, this man, this artist, is in my thoughts.
What service he has given us.
Not only as @PresidentIRL but as our first Minister for the Arts. This photo I took on Inis Oirr in 2021 is one of my most treasured. Go raibh maith aige. #Aras25
