The more I look under the hood, there was absolutely nothing about Luis Gil’s performance tonight that gives me any confidence about his viability as an MLB pitcher moving forward. Some batted ball luck and a terrible offense like the Red Sox have can sometimes combine for a wacky result. Gil did do a good job of limiting hard contact, but the swing and miss stuff just isn’t there anymore. That said, the result is what mattered most tonight.

Giancarlo isn’t just having one bad week. In his eight seasons with the Yankees, he has put up a WAR of 3.0 or more in just two of them. And a WAR of 1.0 or more in only three of them. It’s not just the injuries. It’s directly related to his swing, which in turn is a product of how he compensates for his legs being cooked. He gets hot from time to time, but its not sustainable in the long run. I love G. He did his job in 2024. He earned that ALCS MVP. He came through in the WS. He’s Judge’s #2 in the dugout. I love his attitude and commitment to the Yankee way. But he’s not just having a bad week.

As much as moving Rice behind the plate would improve the lineup offensively (particularly vs LHPs), it's clear why the Yankees don't do it. Ever since the Sanchez era ended, the Yanks have been HUGE on receiving and defense behind the plate in general. Rice graded poorly last year.

@ZazzyJets The jets scream structure to you? He’s not a first round talent and definitely not for the jets. You can find tape on anyone and call it good. He’s the 5th best WR in the draft and we need one of the top 3 WRs to really help. I’d rather pick defense

@drewgoodman84 Here's Michigan. Yes, Cooper played a lot of slot in a run heavy, RPO driven Indiana offense but that's actually a pro, not a con. The fact that he thrived in a structured system is exactly what makes him perfect for us

@ZazzyJets Tyson much better receiver but the injury risk is true. Boston is way bigger guy and at least shows he can play in a crappy system. Wouldn’t take him at 16 either. Would love Tate or lemon at 16 and would take Tyson at 16. Wouldn’t take Boston until 33 and Cooper would be later

@drewgoodman84 Tate or Lemon sure. Tyson I have graded higher, but his injury risk is too much for my liking. Boston... Nope. A big guy that can't block. No block, no rock.

@drewgoodman84 Very good speed 4.42, 27 forced missed tackles, inside out flexibility. I don't see the separation issues. You're gonna wait til 33 and let someone else get him? Those quick feet and that acceleration translates to separation at the next level

@ZazzyJets Doesn’t create enough separation, thrived in the most simplest system for his route running, doesn’t have the best measurables and I don’t think he shows enough to make you take him in the first round instead of at 33 or preferably later

@ZazzyJets Omar Cooper is not a first round talent at all, probably the 5th best WR in the draft, and we shouldn’t be wasting 1st round picks on TEs that are not that good and only 6’3
