I have just received another request to review. This time from the BMJ. My response again.. Dear BMJ Thank you for your request. I continue to do the occasional article review, but only for journals that offer some payment for the hours of work and effort required to properly peer review a manuscript. Your journal has not made such an offer, so I must decline. I have no need to add to my CV. Without researchers & reviewers, scientific journals would not exist. Pay the reviewers at least. Yours sincerely, Dr Mark Laslett, PhD

🤔 Most people tend to view discs as quite fragile, easily injured, and even as easily mobile structures in your spine. 🙌🏻 But how accurate are these common beliefs? Read this popular blog by @drjarodhalldpt now to learn more: physio.network/Discsdontslip

We glorify working with athletes (don’t hear what I’m not saying, working with athletes is important and cool) at the expense of the amazing work the other 98% of therapists who aren’t working with athletes are doing.

The person who doesn’t want to be there. The person who doesn’t think physical therapy will help them. The person who was told that they “have” to have physical therapy just so they can have the surgery or MRI they don’t need The person with chronic pain and depression.

Everyone is always so happy and proud of showing off the fact that they worked with an athlete and got them back to a high level of sport performance. While, this is commendable, this athlete also tends to be a person who is super healthy to begin with

Hiring a new grad physical therapist entails significant upfront costs including, but not limited to a dip in clinic productivity during onboarding/mentoring/ramp up and comes with a break-even point within 7-15 months.

Therefore, based on this mathematical model, it would take approximately 6.6 to 14.6 months for the new PT to generate enough profit to offset the initial hiring and onboarding expenses.

Hiring a new graduate physical therapist (PT) involves significant initial investments before realizing profitability. This process, can be visualized as a “J-curve,” which represents initial losses followed by eventual gains as the new hire becomes fully productive.
