So, realised today that my cameras have been out recording post-fire dune recovery for a whole year. So, for anyone interested, here's a year of plants doing what they do (after being burnt to the ground) in 3.5 minutes: youtu.be/q4sKSQQqaoo

Dioscorea elephantipes (elephant’s foot) - unique plants of the succulent Karoo. This one is long living and used medicinally plus it has a history of being used for making bread. #medicinalplants #indigenousknowledge

Two competing version of #PAFTOL's #Plant Tree of Life graphic! The original (L) and a radical re-design (R) by @mossMatters. Which do you prefer?! Vote in poll below and tweet us why! #Botany2020 #Angiosperms353

@drklglenno @vinita_gowda Yes! This is particularly true during the ‘postodocing’ years as I have been at several institutions in the past few years, so have ended up using my gmail account so that I can keep track of all the correspondence!
English

@vinita_gowda Right? I still can't believe that. What if your uni email fills up with an email with more than one attachment? There are so many reasons why folks wouldn't use their institutional email.

If Rosalind Franklin had been male, she'd be remembered not as someone who was screwed over by colleagues who stole her data, but as the co-discovered of the structure of DNA and co-winner of the Nobel Prize.

Today is the 100th birthday of crystallographer Rosalind Franklin, whose X-ray diffraction images of DNA were critical in confirming the structure of DNA. This video highlights the double helix structure and base pairing in PDB entry 1bna: PDBe.org/1bna/3d #Franklin100

"One lesser known threat facing South Africa’s flora is poaching, something normally associated with the illegal killing of animals such as rhinos and elephants. Plant poaching may be for medicinal use, the horticultural trade or any other purpose..." 😡

Threats to #Renosterveld include: agricultural development, invasive alien species AND also, #poaching. How has this become a problem? And what can we do to help the conservation community combat plant poaching? bit.ly/3g0ULMx
