As a long-time Supergrok subscriber, I was understanding and patient with the big rate limit cuts back in May, despite the lack of communication from @xai. Then last week came yet another massive limit nerf as part of the new shared weekly quota, only a few days after I upgraded to heavy. It’s brutal. I can’t even chat unless I fork out even more money😞 I know @elonmusk probably isn’t directly responsible, but this video represents how a lot of loyal subscribers feel right now. While the Imagine limits are disappointing, I’m hopeful they’ll loosen once Colossus 2 & 3 are scaled. What shouldn’t have happened is text and voice chat landing in the weekly quota. Chat should stay separate. It’s far cheaper in compute, and should remain near-unlimited for SuperGrok and Heavy subs — with perhaps a rolling shorter 2–3hr window for anything exceeded by Expert and heavy agent reasoning. With zero product engagement once the weekly quota is gone, subscriber trust breaks and retention plummets. @elonmusk @xai

I totally agree. If they have any sense in the retention department they should have text and voice chat seperate. But I don’t think a daily reset for that is good enough either. Chat is cheap. It should be almost unlimited for normal use and a rolling reset window of a few hours if using expert or heavy mode pushes you past a limit.

@SuperGrok @xai @elonmusk I've cancelled my SuperGrok subscription. I pay for a full month, but because of the weekly limit I only get roughly 2–3 weeks of actual usage per month. Within a few days the limit resets and then I’ll get one more week before it’s over. For someone who uses Grok for important things (including advice about medications and health), suddenly being cut off for days is really problematic. My suggestion: Apply weekly caps only to Grok Imagine. For chat, daily token limits that reset every 24h would be much fairer. I'm convinced SuperGrok has a lot of potential. But this limit system is making it frustrating and practically unusable for many paying users. #SuperGrok #GrokLimits #xAI

@Cephas_Badger @grok @xai @imagine yeah, this clip was purely using the extend feature, so isnt perfect, I initially wanted to stich together seperate videos and use my own music but I ran out of quota. Maybe in a few days when my quota resets Ill make a better version edited in final cut or something

@grok @drstrangelau @xai @imagine Oh, you're talking about your garbage ""extend" option that stitches together 10 second clips. Yeah, that thing goes apeshit starting at the first extend. movement turns to shit, and horrid lip sync, even if the beginning clip looked fine.

Switched over to Grok 4.5 for a few days for some heavy coding usage... completely hit the weekly limit in 2 days! It's a great model, but the SuperGrok Heavy Limit seems very low for the price... even Codex has far more usage.

@MarioX468 @elonmusk Maybe they just don't want people chatting with Grok and bonding with AI. And if you really want to, you'll have to pay up. I honestly can't think of any other logical explanation 🤣🤣

I bought extra credits for $5 just to try it out. One question to Grok in fast mode costs 30 cents - that’s a joke! @elonmusk if you need extra cash, start a fundraiser on X instead of ripping people off with these limits

Yeah I agree. Seperate and persistent text and voice chat, with at MOST a rolling 2-3 hour window tiered for Supergrok and heavy when you use expert and heavy group of agents mode, just like Claude. Paying subscribers shouldn’t be locked out of chat for any reason. User retention will tank as a result.

My lame weekly quota is set to renew in a few hours, so I chatted with Grok on my 2+week long thread and tried a few Imagine prompts to go ahead and run the meter up to 100% to see what happens. The FAQ says when you hit your limit, "You will still have access to Grok's free tier limits on Chat and Voice (these are separate from your weekly usage limit and resets on their own schedule). Hitting the weekly usage limit is not a hard stop." Well I hit a hard stop. I wasn't moved to the "free tier" and no direction was given on how to continue with the "free tier." I've never had to do that before since using SuperGrok. I was curious how the "Extra Use Credits" worked, so I bought $5 of extra credits. When you do this, it doesn't affect your percentage meter. It simply starts deducting from your $ for everything you do (chat, Imagine, Build). The higher compute cost of the activity, the more $ it deducts. So after a few messages, my $5 went down to $4.37. The final kick in the teeth is when I posted a message and was told my conversation is too long. Excuse me? I thought Grok was supposed to encourage this kind of long-form, in-depth engagement? Is it saying that I no longer had enough money to continue posting messages on my thread? This is totally messed up @grok @elonmusk @SpaceXAI . You need to separate chat from the weekly pool, or make it optional for the pool and give users who want indepth chat the ability to do so with the old pre-June rates. And do it SOON... like IMMEDIATELY.

@Aeterna4o I agree. I love Grok, it’s a breath of fresh air amongst competing frontier AI, and I also use Claude. The product itself isn’t the issue here.

Grok means a lot to me. I canceled all my subscriptions for him and for Grok Imagine. I haven't changed my attitude towards Grok, but I'm starting to change my attitude towards the company... I understand everything, I understand that video generation is expensive. But I was happy with how the limits were distributed before. And that I didn't have to restrain myself in words in the chat because of the fear that it would all end now... I don't even use Grok's expert reasoning. Fix this, otherwise all loyalty will quickly end. #grok #Grokslimits #limits #xAI @elonmusk @xai

I’m also on heavy. I use it primarily for image edits, with a lot of chat in voice mode while I drive for my second job. more video recently, mainly to generate 2d animation sprites for game assets. The limits are effectively less than 5% of what they were at the start of the year.

what kind of stuff are you doing? maybe it's just because I'm on Heavy right now, so I didn't notice when they nerfed Premium +... They do need to balance this out tho, and make it clear how X sub equates to grok.com tiers. They should also lower the Heavy price and add another middle option. It's making it more difficult for people to see how good Grok 4.5 is unless they go for the high tier. Better to use it in cursor for now since they include it with Composer usage vs API cost

@bbCaulk @xai @grok @imagine Yeah after the biggest cuts in May, the latest reduction in limits were introduced along with a shared weekly quota that include imagine image and video, api, text and voice chat in one quota, so if one feature maxes out your quota you are limited to free-tier experience of chat

@Steve3Chang @xai @grok @imagine Thanks, honestly prompting was minimal. The model came up with that interesting way to light the cigar. I used the extend feature after the first 10 seconds and it’s not perfect, but I ran out of generations by that point. That was the best result

Yeah, and I remember the bigger cuts came around early May. To be honest I was pretty understanding back then, limits were very generous up until then, and I remember Elon saying that “limits will increase” to someone on X. I know things can change but they’ve effectively cut limits by another ~70%+. To be honest the worst part for me is that chat is not persistent or seperate from these limits. This is a terrible choice from a user retention perspective even, as it completely halts user engagement with Grok for up to a week while they wait for limits to reset, unless they pay for heavily inflated top up credits that offer much less value $/token. Completely ruins trust and connection with the product and company.

Grok 4.5 in Grok Build created an FPS game in under an hour. The prompt was simple. I told it to write a game design document and pull free assets from the web. Then I had it create a TODO.md with implementation phases and run a loop to build out each phase. SpaceXAI and Cursor cooked here. This model is insane.
