Update: Today, the Georgia Supreme Court issued an order directing counsel for the state to file a sworn affidavit providing a “complete explanation” for the filings that included non-existent cases and other errors.

@FrankLuntz Disbarment? Probably not yet at this point (though I think it probably should). I expect a public reprimand and a fine. We'll see though. If she has prior disciplinary history, I'd think a disbarment is on the table.

If attorneys are trying to pass off court docs with wholly fabricated citations that were prepared using AI, couldn’t that be considered contempt (at the very least)?

@invcel @ridireresearch @theguardrailguy @ALDOT No? That's not the law in any jurisdiction I'm aware of. The basic law is that punitive damages can only exist of there are underlying damages. In any event, without direct damages, there's no standing to bring a claim.

@ridireresearch @theguardrailguy @ALDOT If a person is injured because of the incorrect installation, they can sue for damages. Unfortunately, a member of the general public who hasn't been injured can't sue over things like this.
I'd retain this person as an expert witness though.
