Another tragic day for #Myanmar with reports of numerous people killed in Mandalay and elsewhere by security forces. The UN has made clear that such violence is unacceptable and those responsible should be held to account.

The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government (art. 21 Universal Declaration of HR). The will of the people of Myanmar was expressed by the elections on 8.11.2020. My solidarity is with you! I will continue to be your bridge with my full commitment.

I condemn the use of deadly violence in Myanmar. The use of lethal force, intimidation & harassment against peaceful demonstrators is unacceptable. Everyone has a right to peaceful assembly. I call on all parties to respect election results and return to civilian rule.
