Sri Lanka's effort which was magnificent in a losing cause emphasises one thing and that is the value of playing on good pitches. Though the result didn't favour Sri Lanka, they should be applauded for the way they competed with bat and ball. As for Shanaka it was a special effort and Rathnayake continued to impress with his style and approach. Sadly however our world cup campaign has been disappointing hopefully Sri Lanka will come back.

Its extremely sad to see Sri Lanka going out of contention in the world cup with a rather tame display vs the Kiwis yesterday. We all know that no player wants to lose a game and let their pride be hurt and see the country being humiliated. Having said that vs NZ there are some vital questions being asked that begs answers. Batting first at RPICS after countless examples of winning could have been a more than good reason to bat yesterday after winning the toss. Then despite the said decision, letting NZ off the hook after being 84/6 exposed the manner the Sri Lankan bowlers executed their bowling plans. Thirdly the power play and our struggles as a top order on slow pitches was clear for everyone to see once more after the England game. How could a team comprising of experience both on and off the field let these obvious things happen regularly? I am sure it would have been discussed and plans put in place but why isnt it executed? I am in the context of the discussion and the people that are involved, not qualified to comment. But isnt that what we all see from the outside? Then surely it cant be something unknown to people that matter within the said group. Finally its was a golden chance missed as a co host to reach the last four and may be beyond to have given some joy to the thousands fans who spend money and time and even brave the weather and other elements involved to support the game that they are so obsessed with. My conclusion as Sri Lanka is out of the reckoning and the country and its people are heart broken and feel let down.
