Assuming there's no big signing to come, and there really aren't any players left worth big bucks, GM Brian Gutekunst got through free agency with all of his 2027 compensatory picks intact. That'll be great 13 months from now. How it'll be nine months from now remains to be seen.

@michaelsobrien While we are on the topic….an elite 8 appearance in the 2 class system holds substantially more status to me than a final 4 appearance in the 4 class system.

There's a ton of confusion around "making it to state" in hoops. The fans (and Sun-Times) considered it the final 8 in the 2-class era. Now it is the final 4...but the IHSA lists it as making the supers (in both eras, so final 16 then and final 8 now). So, yeah. That is a mess.

The #IHSA 2A Girls Basketball Sectional Championship will be held tonight at Macomb High School as #1 West Hancock faces #1 Tri-Valley. Doors open at 5:00 PM with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 PM. The winner advances to the Super-Sectional on Monday, March 2 at 7:00 PM in Plains.
