Horrific. In 1997 Queen had bought a 7 bedroom mansion in Surrey for Beatrice & Eugenie to use when they got older. The home worth £1.5 M at the time came with 5 acres of land. It was sold 1999 because Sarah said it was too expensive to keep up. The Queen was extremely fond of both girls.

The Irish people delivered their verdict on the Greens in the last election — they were wiped out. But their hated carbon tax lives on through @FineGael and @fiannafailparty. No relief on home heating oil? That's FFG giving the middle finger to rural Ireland. Disgraceful. #Dáil

@Tones24649888 @IrishTimesOpEd I agree. Please listen to the electorate. The greens got their reply. By interviews you are simply deluding them to think they are relevant. This man could not be left in charge of a tin of beans without adding a tax to it.

The video of the traveller lady being beaten while lying unconscious on the road is utter savagery. There are far too many protected classes in Ireland & this is what it leads to, just like it lead to rape gangs in the UK (and will in Ireland). Time to ban orgs who lobby for this

@OneFine23954114 @DaraghCassidy The greens were a curse on this country. Like all curses, their legacy endures. The people rejected their idealogy. We need to fully row back on their zealous acts.

@dwiftyds @DaraghCassidy Rubbish. If the greens were in control we wouldn't have the energy crisis we have now. Compare that to Spain's advanced green energy sector which has significantly buffered it against rising oil prices compared to much of Europe.

I love Spain. But in so many ways (service, speed) the country doesn't scream efficiency to me. So you really have to commend it for being so efficient at building good infrastructure. And you also have to wonder why countries like Ireland and the UK have become so poor at it.
Looking for Growth@lfg_uk

Is this acceptable? Since 1990, Spain has built nearly 7,000 miles of motorway. So ... what about the UK? We have built 422 miles of motorway in 35 years. 35 years – 422 miles. Thats only twelve miles every year. Why have we stopped building?

@endacazz @NicBhriain @Independent_ie Its not a 25 percent reduction. Its a proposed 25 percent reduction on the existing excise It will be close to 11 cent off a litre and the garages will make sure to add that 11 cent before this happens...

@Independent_ie Not good enough. A 25% reduction would bring a €2 litre of petrol down to about €1.83. Not good enough. The rate things ate going would still be back up to €2 within days, thus pretty much destroying the economy

@irishelt @ConorHogarty Correct. The greens are gone. Its time to build infrastructure again. The greens had a fear of concrete and wanted us all back in 1850s. We need to build now for 2050. Build before some of them return to power

@LordGayko @keira_con And who would control the cost of these plots ? I see buddies of FFG liking this idea. I believe in the right of a landowner to be allowed build what they want. I honestly believe that we need to remove planners. The last 60 years of planners in control is a disaster.

@dwiftyds @keira_con No, self-builds in ribbon developments are perfectly acceptable. This is how it's done in normal countries. No, people can't build whatever they want, hence why this house was demolished, like all one-off housing should be.

I did some digging in to the house that is being demolished and I am rather miffed as to what I have seen in from the planning office. I am miffed though because looking at satellite images shows me that the area in question is very well populated with housing and large agricultural buildings. It is not like this house was built in a isolated area impacting a nature reserve or a national heritage site. Judging by the trees on the site I doubt the house could even be seen. Given the number of houses and buildings in the are including new Agricultural building I am at a loss as to how should agreement could be achieved between Meath Co Co and the owners. The refusal was issued 03/05/2007 by the planning manager the reasons given were as follows. Reasons for Refusal – Guidelines 1. Having regard to the location of the site in an area defined as being under strong urban influence in the ‘Sustainable Rural Housing – Guidelines for Planning Authorities’ issued by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government in April 2005, and in a rural area under strong urban influence in the Meath County Development Plan 2007-2013, it is considered that the development which is proposed to be retained would result in excessive density of development in an unserviced rural area, would seriously injure the visual amenities of the area and militate against the preservation of the rural environment. The development which is proposed to be retained would, therefore, be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area. 2. Having regard to the limited size of the original landholding from which the application site is taken, the level of existing and permitted development, the development which is proposed to be retained will result in an excessive concentration of wastewater treatment systems in an unserviced rural area. The development will therefore be prejudicial to public health and be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area. 3. The Planning Authority considers that the two-storey dwelling which is proposed to be retained is out of character in terms of its scale, height and design with the existing dwellings adjacent to the application site. The development which is proposed to be retained would represent an unduly prominent feature in the local landscape, would be visually incongruous and would establish an undesirable precedent for development of this kind. The development would therefore be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area. 4. The proposed development would materially contravene Condition No. 3 of planning permission KA/406669 and would be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area. Condition No. 3 of KA/406669 states that "Prior to the commencement of any development the owner of the landholding of which the site forms part as shown outlined in blue on the location map submitted on 23/12/05 shall have entered into a legal agreement with the Planning Authority under the provisions of Section 47 of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act 2000 providing for the sterilisation from any housing or non-agricultural development on the entire remainder of this landholding" and would also materially contravene condition number 3 of KA/40653 both of which permissions have been implemented which is in similar terms.
