@jasonmauck1 My county has a couple very reliable seed/chem salesmen and an extremely personable NRCS agent that all started pushing soil health and cover crops 10 years ago. 90% of farmers in this county no til and cover. 90% the county south of here is full til. Public opinion follows

@eWillis394 @thesteerman @RyanLoseke @silagechopper @cameron_korth @KornKattle @jarluh @Nebraskero @sippingsuds @mbacowboy @JimEspy @WGranthum I’ve penciled it before and you’re right. I just haven’t been brave enough to try it.

@eWillis394 They SE cattlemen I know (or have heard of) with quality end up custom feed their own because they just can’t seem to get it to pay on the feeder side no matter what they do.

@cameron_korth @coleman_peanut @thesteerman @RyanLoseke @silagechopper @KornKattle @jarluh @Nebraskero @sippingsuds @mbacowboy @JimEspy @WGranthum Makes sense and good to know. Thanks!

@eWillis394 @coleman_peanut @thesteerman @RyanLoseke @silagechopper @KornKattle @jarluh @Nebraskero @sippingsuds @mbacowboy @JimEspy @WGranthum Eastern cattle typically can’t take winter in NE. Gotta buy em in May/ June big enough to b slaughtered by Thanksgiving. That’s my rule of thumb I guess cuz we have all outside pens

@cameron_korth @coleman_peanut @thesteerman @RyanLoseke @silagechopper @KornKattle @jarluh @Nebraskero @sippingsuds @mbacowboy @JimEspy @WGranthum Not sure what you mean. Mind explaining?
English

@Nebraskero I understand but I’m talking about a pot of steers all born within 45 days and wt variance <200 from ang/hrf/sim X cows. Are multiple loads necessary to peak interest of buyers? Summer calves graze fescue and winter calves graze covers. Both get 10-15lbs ddg/corn
English

Two things, I think: tradition and quantity.
What makes a grass str bring more then a backgrounder str? Mostly tradition.
The 6666 started sending cows north during the 10’s drought. They commented they were surprised at the cow culture on the northern plains. Northern cow men put a lot of effort into type, size, uniformity and of course volume.

@coleman_peanut @thesteerman @RyanLoseke @silagechopper @cameron_korth @KornKattle @jarluh @Nebraskero @sippingsuds @mbacowboy @JimEspy @WGranthum I think there’s enough difference in mkt price to pay a truck
English

@eWillis394 @thesteerman @RyanLoseke @silagechopper @cameron_korth @KornKattle @jarluh @Nebraskero @sippingsuds @mbacowboy @JimEspy @WGranthum They say it’s do to the trucking to the feed yards.

@cameron_korth @coleman_peanut @thesteerman @RyanLoseke @silagechopper @KornKattle @jarluh @Nebraskero @sippingsuds @mbacowboy @JimEspy @WGranthum Is it too nice of a disposition? Most cows and calves around here are caught with grain and never see a horse. Also I’m talking about selling yearlings to finishers. Between home raised corn and Whiskey distillers, our feed price to background is competitive though no mkt 4 fats
English

@coleman_peanut @eWillis394 @thesteerman @RyanLoseke @silagechopper @KornKattle @jarluh @Nebraskero @sippingsuds @mbacowboy @JimEspy @WGranthum Freight, quality, disposition, feed costs, slaughter availability when finished
English

@thesteerman 1000 miles $5/mile 48000lbs 3% shrink still leaves room. I understand #1 is a looser term down here but good herds in this area do exist and are moving in the right direction. Do current genetics dissuade you from buying southern calves? Genuinely curious. I don’t mean to pry
English

@DTPatrick1130 I’ll super glue myself to the restaurant front glass while you start cuttin hydraulic lines on the dozer
