Since moving back to Australia everyone I meet asks “where are you from?” As if your place says everything about you.. But, they’re always uninterested in the 6 other countries I’ve lived in, what I learnt there, or why I moved. This lack of curiosity always surprises me.

🇭🇰😢 Sad news today with the passing of local French restaurant chef/owner Gregory Alexandre, dying in a motorcycle accident in the early hours of February 17th. Alexandre had recently opened a new restaurant "Racines" in Sheung Wan, along with well-established BOUILLON. #RIP

These "paper" bottles are actually lined in plastic (Tetrapak). They're very hard to recycle as they're essentially a composite, fused together with layers of other materials. It's probably less plastic than a bottle but at the end of the day they mostly still go to landfill. 1/2

NB. I want to be really clear that I offer this without judgement nor ill will — I just hope more of us would realise that a "better" single-use disposable is rarely the answer.

Beginning week 9 of down under again In the end I only chose to move back to Australia because my parents are so old and I missed so much time with them because of the pandemic and the government’s cruel rules. I just didn’t expect the grief and loss to come some quickly.

It does seem like broadcast TV, cable, and commercial radio are still influential in Australia. I don’t really have a take on that beyond having given up on the first two in the early 2000s, and commercial radio back in the 90s.

To my knowledge, at least five Taiwanese commentators and politicians are gifting more than 300 bags of Taiwanese fried chicken chop for free on the street because they won/lost the bet on whether Pelosi will come or not. It's a win-win tradition and should be treasured.
