@astro_reid In this image, also taken from the Orion capsule, we see the divide between night and day, known as the terminator, cutting across Earth. Whether awake or dreaming, we're all here on this planet together.

We see our home planet as a whole, lit up in spectacular blues and browns. A green aurora even lights up the atmosphere. That's us, together, watching as our astronauts make their journey to the Moon.

@Cipher_twt Humidity, power, connectivity, transportation. Cooling a data center does not require low ambient temperature, most power goes to heat transport which would not change with lower ambient temperature.

If data centers require so much cooling, why don’t we build more of them in extremely cold places like Antarctica ??

Honest question. People who English is not their first language… how do they code?? Do Germans code in German? Do Arabs code in Arabic??

I made a post on Bluesky that pulled in a pretty hostile anti-AI crowd over night. The comments are vulgar yet oddly fascinating.

@ChrisJBakke Elon’s work ethic is so wild he wants self-driving so he can sleep while shuttling between his own companies - and Mars because each sol gives him 36 extra minutes of work time. Man’s optimizing planets now.

When I reported to Elon, we would have X product meetings at 5 or 6pm (because he was with the Tesla team for 10 hours before that), then my 1:1 checkin would be at 10pm, but that would regularly get moved to 11pm or midnight or 1am. Usually around 2am, he’d go take a nap for a couple hours in the office and then repeat the same schedule again the next day with a different set of companies, 7 days a week.

@Jonathan_Blow @notch True, I've only made small games, but contributed to complex systems. Every field looks easy until you understand it deeply.

@Jonathan_Blow @notch The Dragon Book myth is overblown. Simple compilers are easy; optimized ones are hard. Same with games. Claiming "games are harder than other software" is the same fallacy as claiming they’re easy - both ignore the depth of each field.

Well I wrote a compiler recently. I also did early web stuff, and enterprise automation software in the 90s, as well as set-top-box software. But also, look, when you actually work on something that’s pretty hard, you are able to make relative comparisons. You know when software is doing something hard or not because you know whether you could sit down and write it (in principle, even if it would take many years) with or without having to learn a bunch of new things, and so forth.

@notch I certainly don't say this kind of thing to discourage people from going into it. I just think outsiders have no idea how much harder games are than basically all other software.

@levelsio Some RAM comes with multiple XMP profiles. Try to set for lower clock speed, e.g. 6000. You won't notice the perf difference above 6k anyways.

Anyone know why GPU PC won't boot, just goes max fan and no video: I just upgraded 2x 32GB Corsair Vengeance sticks and added to 2 more, so 4x They're DDR5 6400MHz 64GB 2x32GB CL32 RAM Motherboard is ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI ChatGPT says it's cause it can't handle 4x RAM sticks at 6400MHz? So you gotta push the MHz down in BIOS? But also sounds like it's hallucinating

@coolindark @Rainmaker1973 You can still get sick from cold stress and endogenous infections, you basically carry the pathogen in your body. Unlikely to catch a cold/flu due to lack of viruses.

@Rainmaker1973 So, if you live outside of city (clear environment like forest) and alone, you probably won't get cold due to weather conditions 🤘🏼
