Hi Wes, I am a GP and love the idea that you want to get the right access to mental health services for patients. In the past decade only two of my patients have been seen by Psychiatrists following my referral. 2 in 10 years! And goodness I try, my days are filled with trying to find a way of getting them the right support. My door is open if you want to come and see the system challenges first hand. They could be overcome so easily. x.com/ankitkant/stat…

Me when the person with pre diabetes , under a tier 3 weight management service, says that no one has ever talked to them about a low carb diet. FFS. See previous tweet 🤷‍♂️

I will miss @NHSEngland almost as much as I miss chocolate teapots, one legged participants in arse-kicking contestants, and the Dutch air-mountain rescue service. Will be interesting to see how we do things differently. Hopefully not by re-employing them all with new titles.

The Prime Minister wants to reduce the number of QUANGOs. Today we are abolishing the biggest QUANGO in the world. I will be making a statement to Parliament shortly on the future of NHS England. We will deliver better care for patients and better value for taxpayers.

@SteveLaitner Agree. Seems quite a reductionist approach. Feeds the supplements industry and gives folk an easy win.

Not convinced that continuing loads of research that increasing single dietary factor x leads to a reduction in disease y is that useful for overall public health (Today - calcium & bowel cancer; morning (not afternoon) coffee and heart disease) Holistic approaches more useful?

Many congratulations to Ruth who completed her 250th volunteering occasion today! 👏 Not only was Ruth today's Run Director but she is also our Duke of Edinburgh volunteer coordinator & assessor, and looks after the volunteer roster every week. Well done to Ruth! 🙌

@mgtmccartney It would be interesting to know if this is a global phenomenon, in which case I’d agree with you.

d'you know, I'm not quite so sure it's down to "TV series about the gruelling lives of doctors" and "public squabbles over pay" that have made medicine less popular to apply to

@pwhitakerwriter Our policy is make changes only when they do not disrupt the personal list system. Continuity is a win for GPs and patients. I can't imagine seeing my partners' complex chronics. Patients wait for own Dr. Let's hope next government are listening

@gp_recept10n Probably not many needed to be same day but so what? Why put off today’s work to another (also very busy) day? We try to do today’s work today @Summerfield_HC We don’t always manage it.

Demand for urgent same day #TeamGP appointment access seem to be so out of kilter from what is actually possible with current capacity - we operate at above safe capacity every day. I wonder from a clinical perspective how many of those booked as same day needed to be same day?

@DrWallBolton Don't apologise! We had a our last team debrief of 2023, sitting around the table with a few beverages and snacks. We reflected on the year, decided overall it had been Not Too Bad, all things considered....and proposed that we do it again this year. The motion was carried 😄

@SteveLaitner My boys always asking for more pocket money. I tell them more resources aren’t always the answer. I say “Be more Steve!”…….. It doesn’t land well 😳😬

“Be More Steve”! More resources isn’t always the answer! We need better systems and processes and workflow, better coordination and I would argue more senior clinical expertise earlier in the pathway Don’t fall into the Moral Hazard trap of “we can’t do better without more £”
𒊓𒅂𒁓𒐗𒐕𒐗 Steve the skeptic@sib313

The claim that dominates the NHS narrative: things can only improve with a lot more resources. The reality: resources are used so badly huge improvement is possible from better coordination and management. hsj.co.uk/daily-insight/…
