8.7% a1c to 8.4% a1c. Yikes, @ebekozien! Both are terrible and well within the range of diabetic complications. I could eat pizza and grocery store sheet cake every day and get a (still awful) 6-7% a1c. Im a T1, I cut out the carbs and maintain my 4.6% a1c, with blood sugars flat and stable 80-90mg/dL. @DikemanDave @ItIsMikeFitz @T1Factz

Outcomes are improving for people with type 1 diabetes (PwT1D). We (@T1DExchange) observed improved outcomes for 48,000+ PwT1D in our new paper. Inequities by race and insurance exists but we are addressing that as well 👇🏿 #T1D liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/di…

🚨 14th November is World Diabetes Day so let me tell you a true story: Just prior to September 2023 my good friend who lives with Type 1 Diabetes started experiencing numbness in his fingers + clouding in his eye 😔 Up until this point his hba1c had been around 8% for a long time. His diabetes team said that was "fine" 😬 Following standard advice he was eating 300g carbohydrates per day. On 1.9.23 we reduced that to 150g max daily, saving 30g to treat hypos. He lifts weights 3x weekly also. His hba1c has reduced significantly (see graph) and he's on route to normalizing his blood sugars for the first time in his life 🥳 👉Why this matters: ✅ He no longer has numbness in his fingers ✅ his clouding will likely resolve ✅ his insulin use is down ✅ he spends more time in range now ✅ his CVD risk is way less now. 👉The lesson: Hba1c is directly proportional to your carbohydrate intake (research backs this up so it's not just n=1). This isn't hard. It isn't restrictive. But it may just save your life.
