@ambernoelle Because it's her decision to handle her illness with the support of her family in a way that makes sense for her and the fact that some people are feeling guilty about their behaviour really isn't her problem? Is this really that hard for people to grasp?

This is an important article. Libraries are on the front line of the censorship battle, but ultimately the effects go much deeper.

Library books have faced challenges for decades, but a recent shift has become more organized as a proxy culture war theglobeandmail.com/canada/article… Recent challenges mimics what is happening in America, often looking to remove books on gender identity, sexual orientation, or race

RIP Sinead O'Connor. She took a Prince song and made it her own and turned it into one the biggest hits of a new decade. Took on the church when people were too afraid and knew it could (and would) destroy her career.

Illinois has banned book bans. Gov. Pritzker signed into law a bill that requires libraries to adopt ALA’s Library Bill of Rights, which states that “materials should not be proscribed or removed because of partisan or doctrinal disapproval.” #bannedbooks bit.ly/3oS3wCd

It is a wonderful addition to the edition, and offers a deeper dig into the greater context. Thanks for your contribution!

I adapted my @wrdsb delegation from a couple months ago so it could be published by @CdnSchoolLibrar! It's an honour to have it alongside so many other articles that address the current attacks on 2SLGBTQ+ rights in education. journal.canadianschoollibraries.ca/confronting-an…

Curated library collections must contain disability, SOGI, 2SLGBTQ+, BIPOC, antiracism, and Truth And Reconciliation voices and works. It will take quite some time for under-representation to achieve parity. Equity isn’t a trend; it’s an ongoing professional obligation—and a joy.

Really great article by ⁦@marshalederman⁩ about book banning here in Canada (and in the US). We have to be ready to fight. Opinion: U.S.-style book bans could happen in Canada too, if we’re not careful - The Globe and Mail theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

Another bit of sound legal judgement this week, from TX, where a judge found that conservative library board members had likely exercised unconstitutional content-based restrictions when banning books from the Llano public library. The books ordered back. texastribune.org/2023/03/31/tex…

Introverts lose arguments on purpose. Trust me, they can debate and destroy you. They can read you like a book. They know how you think and everything that happened. But they care for their peace more than a temporary ego high. So, all they say is: "you're right".

Librarians play an important role in improving literacy skills. At a time when NAEP scores are lower and students are still in academic recovery mode, we need to be focused on what really counts - getting kids to read. A climate of censorship discourages reading. #FReadom
