Do you have knowledge or expertise in taxonomic groups found in the UK’s uplands? I’m looking for naturalists to contribute to autecological analysis as part of a #biodiversity audit assessing impacts of land-use change across eight of northern England’s protected landscapes 1/4

A bit daunting when I realised quite how many people were in the audience, especially as I was talking about career plans changing due to chronic illness. I wrote it with my past-self in mind, so hopefully it will help some students in a similar position.

To understand potential winners and losers of land management options, multi-taxa analysis is being conducted using biological records from the protected landscapes highlighted on the map. If you have data in these areas, please contact franky.rogers@uea.ac.uk 3/4

A CALL FOR THE IMMEDIATE CANCELLATION OF THE NORWICH WESTERN LINK ROAD‼️ In the current economic landscape, the glaring disparity between the extravagant £350-£400 million expenditure on this doomed road project that yields a paltry 210-second time-saving benefit is not just concerning but outright alarming. The stark reality that a mind-boggling 600 million individual journeys are required to drive down the cost per vehicle to a mere 50p unveils the sheer absurdity of this undertaking, especially when contemplating the hypothetical scenario of it operating as a toll road—an expense most would vehemently refuse to bear. Delving deeper into the issue, the lopsided allocation of transport funding in the UK towards road infrastructure at the expense of more sustainable and community-friendly alternatives paints a bleak picture of shortsighted policy decisions that prioritise immediate gains over long-term societal well-being and environmental preservation. Furthermore, the prevailing economic instability stemming from the relentless pursuit of unbridled growth in high-income economies has set in motion a vicious cycle of ecological degradation and climate upheaval. As the global economy grapples with stagnation, the urgency to reassess such colossal investments that not only fail to address pressing environmental and social crises but exacerbate them looms large. It is imperative to challenge the status quo, demand accountability, and advocate for sustainable solutions that steer us away from the brink of irreversible damage. #EconomicConcerns #Sustainability #ClimateAction #PolicyReform 📋 Don't forget to spread the word about our easy-to-use objection guidelines – norfolkwildlifetrust.org.uk/NWL 📷 Boost our social media - share our posts far and wide. Just come back to my flat after visiting family over the festive season and found this brilliant looking guy inside. Best I can tell from a bit of googling it’s a Leptoglossus occidentalis - Western Conifer Seed Bug. Not sure if it’s a local or come in via a Christmas tree…
