@DrSianAllen Any chance you’ll migrate over to Mastodon, Threads or some other platform? I really appreciate & value your posts, but don’t think I can stick around on Twitter much longer.

@MengTo @Bitcoinvics @petergyang I grew up in the States & spent about 1.5 years living in SG. Though it was hot & humid, I came to appreciate the consistency of the weather. And, like you, also enjoyed the incredible thunderstorms! We lived in the East Coast ‘hood & loved it—great local vibe & GREAT eats.🤤
English

@Bitcoinvics @petergyang In Canada I would dream of getting 31. Most days you can’t go out without a jacket. Don’t get me started about winters.
Sweating is good for you and is an option. Most of the time, you spend indoors. Outdoor activities with wind and water at quite nice.

We just moved to Singapore. It’s a dream to live here.
⁃ 26-31º all year
⁃ Super safe & clean
⁃ Great education & services
⁃ Started a company w/ Sleek
⁃ Sponsored my own visa
Rent is expensive (5k), but everything else is affordable, esp taxi and food.
Canada has been my home most of my life. It’s generous in space, friendly and peaceful. But my dream was to work in the US. I did for a year, until they kicked me out. Defeated, I went on to travel for 2 years. We fell in love with Singapore and Japan. Didn’t think it was possible to live there because of visas.
Then I started @designcodeio and became financially independent. To be near family, we settled back in Canada. We had 2 kids and bought a big house. Life was good. But we only felt alive in the summer, and we always wanted to travel. We just love Asian food and we keep referencing Japan for everything: sushi, ramen, tea, wagyu (told my kids it’s called melt-in-your-mouth), perfect strawberries, muscat grapes, etc.
After our Japan/SG trip last winter, it was clear that we wanted to move there permanently. I started to look at Vancouver, Japan or SG to be closer to Asia. After a failed visa attempt and a few tweets, people suggested starting a company and sponsoring my own visa via Sleek. I had no idea such a service existed. Fast forward a couple of months, we were approved and ready to move!
The kids are having a blast at the kids parks, shopping malls and swimming pools. So much to explore. It’s still honeymoon phase, but we’re going out almost every day and love that it’s full of Japanese restaurants and groceries (Don Don Donki). Lots of spicy food here, so the kids always prefer Japanese food or fast food. We avoid the latter. As someone who cooks, I appreciate the high-quality ingredients.
We plan to visit Japan multiple times a year during the spring break (cherry blossom, they have 2-3 weeks here!), long summer, fall break (yep!) and winter. Of course, we’ll visit other places too, such as Vietnam, Thailand, Australia and Europe. Most importantly, we won’t need to hibernate anymore.
Moral of the story: don’t go to Japan. It’ll spoil you.

@michaelmiraflor @vincenzolandino I’m fortunate enough to own a 36mm Explorer circa 2001 & agree that it’s essentially perfect—super wearable, versatile & surprisingly under-the-radar. But a dive/timing bezel can be useful, so the small Pelagos is a strong choice if you often time things (tea, parking, etc.).
English

@vincenzolandino Here’s where I’m at now:
Tudor Pelagos 39 (mostly bc it’s *not* a Black Bay)
Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch (sapphire crystal)
Rolex Explorer
The Rolex would need to be second hand and would still be the most expensive bc of their dumb controlled supply, but it’s near perfect.

@EHaldopoulos @TomVoelk @amazon @Rivian Thanks for the insight! I wonder if they’re not installed on the German version due to privacy regulations or simply to reduce costs?
English

@TomVoelk @amazon @Rivian No worries! Interesting that that gadget affixed to the rearview position in your photo doesn't seem to be included on the truck in Germany, as per the images @electricfelix posted. For whatever reason, I always find regional product differences fascinating.

The magpie is one of the most intelligent animals to exist. Their brain-to-body-mass ratio is outmatched only by that of humans. Their playful, curious spirit drives adaptation and exploration

For the Apple Watch experts, is the #AppleWatchUltra the first model that includes cellular hardware by default (thereby allowing cell service to be added post-purchase)? As far as I can tell, it is, but I've not been following the Apple Watch closely in recent years.
English

@LaLtheGaL Wow, that's amazing that you're already getting down to those depths! I'll bet that Apple releases a new model within 3 years that's rated to 100m to persuade suckers like me who buy the Ultra now to upgrade.🥲 At least they're good about taking back & recycling used items.
English

For anyone who's interested, this tweet provides a good size comparo between the Apple Watch Ultra & non-Ultra cases...

English

@LaLtheGaL Out of genuine curiosity, what depth rating would be sufficient for your needs? 40m is the generally accepted threshold for recreational "air" diving, which I'm guessing is why Apple targeted that depth.
English

@caro_milanesi Really appreciate your added commentary Carolina, and great point about the Ultra being less overtly masculine than other watches in this "adventure" category. Do you happen to know the circumference of your wrist? Was just hoping to get some context vis-a-vis the size.
English

@CharlesPattson It's such a great example of software selling hardware. Many people are going to stretch up to the Pro price points for this feature alone. As they've been saying for a while now, Apple's ability to meld hardware & software is a ginormous competitive advantage.
English

@sdw 🙌🏻Amen, brother! And, in addition to the added ruggedness, the Ultra offers meaningfully more battery life. Even as someone w/ a relatively small wrist, this more than offsets the larger form factor.
