@44ron44 @ycombinator It learns about how you would behave and mimics your behavior. Obviously the future is not determined but it’s realistic in that it’s based on how you’re likely to actually behave

@edtechceo_ @ycombinator Where does the realism come into play? This sounds like a text box you feed your personal info into, and then I guess it makes ai videos you can watch of a life you’ll never have.

Common Gap from Deep24 (@effortcompany24) is a single app for college and graduating high school students to apply to take a gap year at fast-growing startups. Participating companies include Corgi Insurance, Zingage and Superbuilders. This is a bet on giving young talent responsibility, and believing that they can grow into the role. Gap year offers have a minimum salary of $75k/year, with most offers expected to reach six figures. businessinsider.com/what-if-your-g…

@TheCorgiCompany is coming out of stealth with $108M raised to build the future of financial infrastructure. A lot of the GDP flows through highly regulated financial entities that haven't been meaningfully changed in decades. To fix this, we're starting in insurance.

Corgi (@TheCorgiCompany) is coming out of stealth with $108m raised! As the first and only insurance carrier built for startups, Corgi lets tech companies get covered in minutes, not days, with modern infrastructure replacing brokers and paperwork. Congrats on the launch @emily_yuan_ & @nico_laqua!

@andyfang Had pitched this at Uber for some time while a PM there, they’re naturally advantaged over DD here (location share data for safety, trips data) but of course post-Travis culture would never bet on this and DD continues to out execute

Today, we’re excited to launch Zesty, a new food discovery app to help you find the best local places. Powered by AI to help you search how you want and ask questions like a concierge; and aggregating info across DoorDash, Google Maps, TikTok, etc. to curate the best suggestions from the web. Live today in SF Bay Area and New York! Look forward to hearing early feedback on the product

@Bagz_Tech @eduleadership There is tech out there that motivates droves (Prodigy, Duolingo) and you can come up with some very intrusive tech like Alpha School too or even more intrusive (used as a positive here). It’s just how intrusive you are permitted to be - the tech exists

@eduleadership I do wonder to what extent tech can solve motivation. But I think the greatest motivators currently are parents. When I taught, outside of a handful of self-motivated students, there was a clear difference in whether the parents were invested in their kid's education.

Motivation is always going to be an issue, but I don't think it is wrong to start with building for top students. You need an ideal customer profile for any app. But this cannot be the end. If you can teach the top 10%, then you need to ask how to reach the top 50%. Motivation? Scaffolding? Atomization? Then, figure out how to reach the top 75%. Then, the top 95%. Then, you can change the world.
Justin Baeder, PhD@eduleadership

Here's the blind spot I keep seeing in ed tech: it works for the motivated...but most people are not motivated. 2-10% at most—and they will do just fine with books. We're spending billions on tech kids won't actually use.

@AaronBergman18 EA assumes values that most people just don’t believe in. Dell and others probably value an American child way above other lives + get to pump the markets/money manager friends’ pocket

Parenting is so underesearched relative to total system level utils Literally shapes the whole arc of life (happiness) and contribution to society of kids and how they parent their kids (if they have kids at all)

@gokulr @bgurley @DoorDash @Uber Doordash just cares a lot more about merchants. Uber Eats didn’t really care at an org level (from starting with rides which only cares about drivers and riders) while I was there 3 years ago, which was sad. Hear that’s changing and hope it happens

I admire and respect @bgurley but this is like saying Google added 10+ Ubers in a quarter - it's comparing apples to oranges. @DoorDash does not play in the rides segment at all, and the charts below compare @Uber rides + deliveries to DoorDash deliveries. Comparing Like to Like (global deliveries), DASH is bigger than UBER and added more delivery $ than UBER QoQ. More here: x.com/gokulr/status/… Both companies are doing well. Let's focus on customers and serving them well!
Bill Gurley@bgurley

$UBER almost added a $DASH.

AI Screen Time Agents (for your household) We put an LLM on a VPN to give parents control of the network traffic entering their homes and children's minds. We launched the Clearspace mobile app during @ycombinator 2 years ago and one of the things we've heard most often from our users is “I need this level of control for managing my kids devices" We will roll this out in waitlist order, you can join here: getclearspace.com/waitlist If you are an exceptional designer or engineer that wants to use their talents to wage war on the attention economy, we are hiring: excellence@getclearspace.com
