@DrDeckerA608 I have tried to encourage civil, respectful conversations between classmates and friends about politics. The media seems to often push for conflict, but I believe true learning and understanding of perspectives has to involve open conversations.
#RBG remained close friends w/Justice Scalia who she vehemently disagreed w/on many decisions & about many issues. They went skydiving together #& shared a passion 4opera. They found common ground. What have you done lately 2 find unity instead of division? A308 1 pt extra credit
@DrDeckerA608 RBG was a founding force for exemplifying “new” roles women can take on, in the world of law and education. She endured many obstacles to receive her own education and eventually became the first woman to be hired with tenure at Columbia U School if Law.
@DrDeckerA608 As much as I hope so, since justices serve life-long terms I am skeptical. Further, I think the country will want to see a gender balance in the Supreme Court so I imagine more women, as well as trans people, non-binary people, etc will be nominated.
@DrDeckerA608 I have become more interested in possibly pursuing a career in Ed policy. I attended the IACTE Day at the Statehouse in the spring and it was empowering to talk with legislators about education reform. Now I feel even more excited to explore the field!
#RBG was a woman in a sea of men. Many educators are women in a sea of women. Just think what your empowered, collective voices can accomplish! A308 1 pt EC - what will you do with your new legal literacy?
@DrDeckerA608@DrDeckerA608 I am in my third year as the outreach coordinator for KDPi in the IU School of Ed. In this role I have organized opportunities for our members to give back to the community (I.e. volunteer tutoring, hosting a free community literacy event).
@DrDeckerA608@DrDeckerA608 I enjoyed learning about the EAA and how it protects secondary level student groups, even if there is community/parent opposition (so long as it is a noncurricular group that meets outside of instructional time).
#RBG brought more attention to and education about #SCOTUS than any other justice in my lifetime. She made #LegalLiteracy cool (kinda 😊) What have you learned about the law? A308 1 pt extra credit
@educmcgrawkm Hi Katie! In my opinion I believe using one piece of technology per lesson plan is plenty. Anything more and the prep time and overall activity can take longer and become a little complex!
Hi everyone! In your opinion, how much is "too much" technology in the classroom? How can we balance using technology with traditional, hands on activities? #elemchat
@MrsSierraFlores A5: Hello! I am a sophomore at Indiana University and hope to teach 2nd or 3rd grade in the future. I've had experience in various classrooms as a cadet teacher for 3 years now.
Hi everyone! What grade level(s) do you teach? (Or what university do you attend) How many years experience do you have? #elemchat
Me: I've taught 2nd grade departmentalized Math & Science for 4 years, and 3rd grade self-contained for the past year!
Women have been doing amazing, daring, and dangerous things for years.
But they're rarely mentioned in our history books as adventurers, daredevils, or rebels.
This book aims to change that! #Edchat#Teaching#ElemChat 📚

@BeaneSydney A3: Hi Sydney! I've recently discovered Lucidchart which is a great and easy to use resource for making all kinds of graphic organizers. #elemchat
@mslenastephens A2: Hi Lena! I think a useful classroom management tip is to have clips or "levels" that indicate how a student is behaving each day. These are helpful ways to remind students if they need to stay focused, or praise them for staying on task. #elemchat
@TeachBloom A1: Hi Emma! Newsela is a great resource for finding educational articles for readers of all levels. This can be especially helpful if you're teaching younger students about a more mature topic, such as WWII.
