Last week in Dallas, I spoke with NASASPS about efforts to improve and modernize accreditation. As we return education to the states and ensure institutions serve students and families, strengthening accreditation is key. Through actions already taken, ongoing rulemaking, and continued reforms, we’re working to make higher education more transparent, affordable, and accountable.

The student loan portfolio, now nearing $1.7 TRILLION, is worth more than all cumulative credit card debt in the U.S. @usedgov has been a failed manager of this portfolio, which is why we’ve partnered with @USTreasury to better serve borrowers and their families.

Today, the Trump Administration began rulemaking to revamp our higher education quality assurance system. Accreditation is no longer the reliable indicator of quality it once was. We have a significant opportunity to reimagine a postsecondary education quality assurance process that better serves today’s students, institutions, employers, and taxpayers.
