Some work news: After five years as @Telegraph political editor this month I’m going to be moving into a new role. Will be becoming the paper’s chief political commentator with a focus on deeper reporting and analysis. Less attached to the daily news agenda, with space for in depth coverage of the goings on in Westminster An exciting challenge which coincides with some personal news: becoming a father next month! And a new rhythm to life round the corner. Will be off a chunk in spring and summer on paternity. Many many congrats to @Tony_Diver who is becoming our new pol ed. A brilliant reporter and story-getter who will thrive in the role. So many fascinating contours in politics right now to get stuck into.

I have sacked Robert Jenrick from the Shadow Cabinet, removed the whip and suspended his party membership with immediate effect. I was presented with clear, irrefutable evidence that he was plotting in secret to defect in a way designed to be as damaging as possible to his Shadow Cabinet colleagues and the wider Conservative Party. The British public are tired of political psychodrama and so am I. They saw too much of it in the last government, they’re seeing too much of it in THIS government. I will not repeat those mistakes.

The OBR has broken **the entire Budget**. It's extraordinary. Completely unprecedented. Hyperbole doesn't do it justice Reeves will unveil £26billion in tax rises, ultimately leaving her with £22billion worth of fiscal headroom * The tax burden will hit a record 28 per cent as a proportion of GDP in 2031 * The freeze in income tax thresholds raises £8billion. It will lead to 780,000 more basic rate taxpayers and 920,000 more higher rate taxpayers * The tax raid on pension contributions raises £4.7billion * Pay per mile levy on electric cars raises £1.4billion * Cuts to writing down capital allowances £1.5billion * Gambling taxes £1.1billion

BREAKING: Angela Rayner resigned from government after Sir Laurie Magnus declared that she had breached the ministerial code. While the prime minister’s ethics adviser said that she had “acted with integrity” he told the prime minister that “she cannot be considered to have met the ‘highest possible standards of proper conduct’ as envisaged by the [ministerial] code.” He said that, contrary to claims made by some of her allies, Rayner had not received “expert tax advice” before the purchase of her home in Hove
