@EdwardGLuce Yes, that indeed seems to mainly be the case, though I guess he does do some skimming too, no? Is this something you could ask him about during your next Sunday catch-up?

So many longtime NATO supporters saying the same thing right now. I helped bring Poland, Hungary and Czech Republic into NATO. But denying us basing and overflight is inexcusable, as is their failure to help with Strait of Hormuz. No one asking them to bomb Iran, just let us use our bases and help escort ships. If they can’t do that, NATO has no purpose.

I'm pro-NATO. But I can't think of a single argument to refute what @MsMelChen says here. Not one. If others can, please weigh in.

"People say?" Grammarians would call this a "passive third-person construction." Historians will call this "yellow journalism." Britain is going to encounter an unscalable, vertical wall of too-long-deferred adjustment to reality. A century past its squandered empire, Britain has very few friends. Their number will soon shrink. Just a few modest questions, if I may: Can Britain defend its own interests around the world, to include...? ■ Its sources of food, energy, and medicine if they were threatened? ■ Its approaches by air and sea? ■ Its cyberspace? ■ The peace on its own streets? The Wall of Adjustment will be painful.

People say Trump’s presidency is dying in Iran but we’re less than a third of the way through. Chances of major power conflict before 2029?

@EdwardGLuce Trump still has 8 months of real power. Then, it's reasonable to imagine his hands will be tied by a Dem Congress.

I get that this is an unpopular view but: We need more journalists & fewer pundits. We need more original reporting & fewer hot takes riffing off the news. We don't have this because reporting takes work and is difficult & pontificating on YouTube is lazy & easy.

@EdwardGLuce That was exactly the other part of it. On my days off, I went to London and saw plays on the West End and NT for less than I have ever paid in my life for theatre. Over five summers I built up my whole canon of Hare, Pinter et al.

@EdwardGLuce A Swiss-American summer camp rented Hurstpierpoint College and hired lots of recent uni grads as staff (this was the 90s). We discovered Greta Scacchi and Jimmy Hill lived in town, where there was a great pub garden at the New Inn & we could just walk right on to the Downs
