In an ancient little church on the outskirts of Paris, a Korean woman is leading the faithful in song at every Mass. She is helping the Church re-establish its dominance in beauty, transcendence, and hymnography. This is Catholic beauty. This is what the Kyrie should sound like!

For years I've been taking selfies of my outfits just to remember what I wore or share with friends. Camera roll: thousands of pictures, zero of them findable. So i built the thing i wanted. Meet Yafa 🧵

If you pitched this as a screenplay every studio would reject it for being too on-the-nose. A 73-year-old architect walks to confession in 1926 and gets hit by a tram on the Gran Via in Barcelona. He's mistaken for a vagrant because of his worn clothes and left at a pauper's hospital. He dies three days later. His name is Antoni Gaudí. The cathedral he leaves behind is less than a quarter complete. The plans to finish it sit in his workshop as plaster models and detailed drawings. Ten years after his death, in July 1936, FAI anarchists break into that workshop. They smash the plaster models. They burn the archive of drawings and calculations. They pry open Gaudí's tomb. For the next 50 years, architects piece together a destroyed playbook from photographs and broken plaster fragments. The geometry was the real problem. Gaudí designed the church using upside-down hanging-chain models because the math for hyperboloid intersections did not yet exist on paper. He had solved it physically. Computers finally caught up to him in the 1980s. By 2010 the project was 50% complete. By 2015 stone elements that took months to hand-carve were being modelled digitally and machine-cut in days. Now the kicker. The building is funded entirely by people paying admission to see scaffolding. €134.5 million of income in 2025, all private, none of it from the Spanish state or the Vatican. About 4.7 million tourists a year buying €26 tickets to watch a cathedral get built. The unfinished state was the product. On June 10, 2026, exactly 100 years to the day after Gaudí died, the cross goes up on the Tower of Jesus Christ. 144 years from groundbreaking. 172.5 meters tall. The tallest church building in the world, beating Ulm Minster, which took 513 years. When asked why his project was taking so long, Gaudí said one thing: "My client is not in a hurry." Turns out neither was he.

The world's tallest church is about to get its crown. On June 10, 2026, exactly 100 years after Antoni Gaudí's death, the Sagrada Família will inaugurate the four-armed cross atop the Tower of Jesus Christ.

On Mother’s Day I know it’s traditional to post the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary punching the Devil, but this year I hope people don’t forget about the cool manuscript illumination where she has an angel babysit Jesus while she wrestles a demon and makes him cry “uncle”.

Hatred destroys justice and charity, leading us to exaggerate the faults of our enemies. The president’s enemies were guilty of this with several of their past efforts at impeachment and lawfare. The president’s defenders are guilty of it now with several of their own actions, such as this one. Each side appeals to the real and imagined sins of the other to rationalize its own. Genuine patriotism requires steadfastly refusing to join either mob. We need, and should only support, leaders who will end this cycle of vengeance.

Heads of state and popes ought to a large extent to disappear into their roles, minimizing the degree to which their individual personalities color perception of their actions. This reinforces in the minds of both the office holder and the public that the authority of the office is held in trust, and exists for the common good rather than the good of the individual office holder and whatever partisan interest he also happens to represent. One reason King Charles has been so attractive a figure to many is precisely that his being “King” is more obvious than his being “Charles.” His bearing and his words have the tendency to bring to the forefront the office and its responsibilities and unifying character, more than his individual personality. Benedict XVI had a similar bearing and rhetorical approach as pope. By contrast, Trump and the late Pope Francis have been such polarizing figures in part because their individual personalities, including their departures from the usual expectations of those who hold their offices, have utterly dominated the way they exercised their authority.

Game engines too bloated and I wanted more control over the architecture. No WGPU because I hate web apps for professional software, and it’s a pain to try to do super high performance multi-threading and memory management. Don’t want to fight with a web browser, or use something like electron.

A few months ago I started writing a Photoshop alternative built on a node graph. Mac and Windows, native C++, 75 nodes. Every operation is non-destructive. Paint, masks, warps, the whole toolset. Nothing bakes. ArcBrush 1.0 is live today!

@mamamightymac @sketch I see, well, hopefully they can figure something out with Figma soon. I haven't used Sketch so far. What do you miss about it? I saw that it has some interesting features, like concentric rounded corners.

@edwardgompy @sketch I don't get to negotiate. All we designers hear is Figma won't come to the table. I know they are FedRAMP approved but maybe since its State Govt there is something missing. We complain all the time - it's become a running joke. Until Adobe stops support completely, we get zip.

@edwardgompy @sketch Sadly, yes. Government. Security is an issue. Figma won't play ball, and they have no intention of giving us Macs. Lesser-known applications struggle to meet requirements.

Cardinal Ratzinger on the Iraq war: “The concept of a ‘preventive war’ does not appear in the Catechism of the Catholic Church… It was right to resist the war and its threats of destruction. It should never be the responsibility of just one nation to make decisions for the world… Given the new weapons that make possible destructions that go beyond the combatant groups, today we should be asking ourselves if it is still licit to admit the very existence of a ‘just war.’” fff.org/2008/04/17/pop…

Every Christian leader should demand the public repentance of President Donald Trump for his blasphemies before he presumes to rededicate our country to “God” on May 17, 2026. Until he does so, we want NO PART with whatever “God” he is dedicating the nation to. It should be boycotted completely, absent repentance. “When you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.” —Isaiah 1:15

O God, Shepherd and Ruler of all the faithful, look favorably upon Thy servant Leo, whom Thou hast appointed pastor over Thy Church. Grant him, we beseech Thee, that by word and example he may edify those over whom he has charge, so that together with the flock committed to him, he may attain everlasting life. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
