1) I got to slow dance with @dfarrah426 at our middle kid’s marriage reception Saturday night. It may not sound like much, but I was mostly wheelchair bound from January until just a few weeks ago. Combine that with the bad scan results I just got & I tried to savor every second.

@ThanksCancer After discussions with my oncologist & my wife, I’ve decided to enter hospice. Chemo & my clinical trial both failed & I felt stopping treatment was better than my remaining chemo option. I’ve decided I want quality for whatever time I have left instead of quantity.

I've run (if we want to call it that) 400m each of the last 3 mornings to test my leg out. ~5:00 (had to walk, so DNF) 3:31 (still essentially walking) 1:54 (plodding) My PR is 52 seconds set 18 years ago (51.9 actually because track people lol) At this rate I should be breaking that tomorrow 😬 #thankscancer #melanoma

Please think of us tomorrow morning. We have some extremely tough decisions to make. Unfortunately, it may be months before we’ll know if we made a good decision. #ColorectalCancer

@ThanksCancer @JulieCromley I have great outcome from my treatments. Cancer had spread everywhere. Found a surgeon in St. Louis. He got most all the cancer out. It reappeared later and we used a new fangled radiation and it destroyed the new cancer. 6 years later I’m still NED. There can be hope!

From the TC mailbag: Recently posted about clear scans, cuz I was so elated! I got a reply saying I’m insensitive to celebrate being rescued from cancer — when so many carcinomies are still waiting for rescue. I felt bad & deleted my happy post. What is appropriate to share?

I will forever post this photo on each first day of school for Brenley. She wants to be an Oncologist. Know why? Because she’s a cancer survivor who fought through hell. We were in hospital with her and saw firsthand. One of the toughest people I have ever seen in my life. ❤️🎗

There is so much courage in oncology, not just in patients who weigh the risk/benefit of chemo & proceed after informed consent, but also in those who decide to focus exclusively on quality of life You and Whose Army? | The Oncologist | Oxford Academic (oup.com)

Keeping it mildly NSFW and about my groin 😂🤷🏻‍♂️ A few people asked me about getting a lymph node excision and how bad it is/what recovery is like. I’m exactly one week out from my lymphadenectomy and I have two scars from others right above this incision. I’ve had wildly varying results in recovery; the first one was maybe the most painful medical procedure of my life, and I’ve had plenty of those. I was bedridden for a month (to be fair, I also had 50 stitches/staples in my calf). Because of my prior experience, I was legitimately scared for this one. Luckily, I got a renowned surgeon who specializes in this type of procedure, and it has made a huge difference. I tried to get the best lighting/angle possible for this pic - both for vanity and information. Minimal swelling 1 week out, still bruising all down my quad. Don’t get me wrong, it still hurts like a bitch, but I’m treating recovery like my job: -Scheduled icing/elevation -Using a massage gun -Going on walks/mini workouts -Eating cleanly so I don’t feel like shit -Cycling NSAIDs -Weed so I can sleep (vs. painkillers) This might seem like a lot of superfluous details about a minor procedure, but I think sharing stuff like this helps. I believe seeing real anecdotes from relatable people is much more reassuring than clinical information (though that stuff is obviously important and takes precedence). Mostly I just wanted to show you my groin 😜 #thankscancer #melanoma #surgery
