It adds digital noise. His friend went to Settings → Picture → Expert Settings → Sharpness and dropped it to 0. On some panels he said 5 to 10 is fine, but never above 10. The image immediately looked cleaner. Fine details that had been hidden behind edge-enhancement halos became visible for the first time. Facial textures, fabric weaves, and background elements all sharpened naturally when the artificial filter was removed. The sharpness slider is the most counterintuitive setting on any TV. Turning it down makes the picture look sharper. Turning it up makes it look processed.
