@tmikov @pzoltowski As good as working in react is, the idea that I would sell my house and move my wife and kid away from our family support system back to a 800sq ft New York walk up because my job says so is patently laughable

Hot take on RTO: developers and teams are different. This is not the case for every team, perhaps not for most teams, but for my team working in person in the same room is a huge improvement of productivity and creativity. Huge. Measurable. Repeatable. This is a fact.
The fast communication, the bouncing off of new ideas, the quick discussions ("hey, can you take a quick look here"), the ad hoc problem solving. Nothing compares to it. It is exhilarating and incredibly productive.
The impact on junior engineers, especially, is immeasurable. If they are not working in person with role models, they are being robbed of experience they can never get otherwise.
Of course it is not like that every day - some days everyone needs peace and quiet and to be working on code alone. An office with an open layout is not ideal for producing a lot of code.
And, honestly, some days we have a errand or two to run. If you deny this is a factor in your desire to WFH, you are being hypocritical.
But, overall, if I had to choose between fully remote and five days in the office, five days in the office is clearly better for me.
Remember, good companies don't usually insist that everyone is in person all the time - it is understood that engineers have flexibility, as long as it is not abused. If your company doesn't allow such flexibility (whether explicitly or implicitly), well then it sucks.
But, also, never take employment for granted - as employees, we are all replaceable. None of us are that good (except some of the "greats", but that is a different topic).
With all that said, the Hermes team is, unfortunately, so distributed, that we cannot all regularly work in person. We make the best of it, but it is definitely taking a measurable toll. We go to great lengths to try to get together in person as much as possible.

@YIMBYLAND @Gok The second two are Brooklyn. Clinton St and Columbia Heights.

🎈 Holding this news back has been killing me, but I’m so excited I finally get to share it with you. I get to work with with my friends on @partykit_io! blog.partykit.io/posts/everythi…

@NYCBikeLanes @NYC_DOT @NYPD84Pct @CMRestler @nyc311 They block most of Montague regularly as well. @UNFI this behavior is dangerous and certainly represents a liability to your company

The Schermerhorn St 2-way bike lane is now a loading zone for Brooklyn Fare.
The @NYC_DOT refuses to add centerline bollards, and if @NYPD84Pct Officers are in the bike lane, they're looking for parking themselves, not enforcing the law.

@glennythpaltrow We have had a lot of issues on that corner. If you get info on the truck - we will report to DOT and authorities.

@kenwheeler @rickyfm I cannot believe this is the uncropped version of Ricky’s profile pic.

@LincolnRestler Totally understand that diverted traffic is expected, but would ideally have ways to mitigate impact/risks of that predictable traffic (short of a much needed redesign). Appreciate your focus on this issue 👍

@efkv Hi - the Brooklyn half marathon is today.
Brooklyn, NY 🇺🇸 English

Less than a week after a woman was killed by a driver in a crosswalk and every crosswalk on Atlantic is blocked today. @LincolnRestler how do we get traffic enforcement here? Especially when closures push cars onto these streets.
