🧵Today, @heatmap_news is releasing a big project we've been working on for the past year — a series of extremely in-depth guides to help individuals take the "highest-leverage" actions to tackle climate change. This is not just about carbon footprints. heatmap.news/decarbonize-yo…

@Revkin @FarmAid Took the train for the first time this year! But dang it's expensive. I'm still baffled that MOFGA hasn't worked out a shuttle system, or at least tried charging for parking to disincentive driving to the main lot.

Instead of sitting in traffic heading to the huge and wonderful Common Ground Country Fair and celebration of small farms and local agriculture, we parked in nearby Unity Maine and took the train (a nonprofit restored local rail line)! Today, I welcomed my friend @SecGranholm to South Portland and Westbrook to celebrate an incredible $36 million grant our state has been awarded through the Inflation Reduction Act that will help thousands of Maine people install heat pumps and save money on energy costs.

My second child’s birthday is in November and I have no idea what to do. Kid 1 is a summer baby so all the parties are at the park but what do I do in November?

@ShiraLurie Yes... the wheels turn slowly and distribution layered. Feds approve. Provs determine which vax to purchase and when administered. My prov has one of worst records on vax distribution. Plan B: head to Maine and pay for novavax

Excited about Novavax approval? Call your pharmacy today and ask when they’ll have it. Tell them there’s demand for it. Help get it into your community asap

@emilypont My assumption would be that a very small one would help if you have an outage but need to drive to an errand/emergency at night and still need to power your fridge and other essential loads. But I'd be curious to hear what folks are saying and whether that's a good assumption.

In a hypothetical future where we’ve ironed out V2G, will there be a reason to have a standalone battery if you have an EV?

@efwendt @sarahradz_ Pretty sure they are full depth.. there is a full size sink and cooktop. A very wide angle lens distorts things.. I can tell from the light fixtures.

Hypothetically if your kitchen was 25' long and you could run lower cabinets all along one wall, with a super long counter top spanning the entire length, would you do this?

@Simspice1 @sarahradz_ Those are lovely kitchens, but if you get full depth counters full, def do that. The counters I have that aren't deep enough (like the 2nd photo) are almost useless for cooking prep, and esp for baking. Also, drawers are great except for sm appliances. Try having both.

Many people think municipalities are switching to LEDs because they are more efficient. This is not really the case. Low-pressure sodium lamps are incredibly efficient. The achieve luminous efficacies of up to 200 lm/w. Only the best LEDs match that. The real advantage of LEDs is that they last about 4-5x as long, which dramatically reduces their lifecycle cost of operation. While the bulbs are pretty cheap, the cost of truck rolls and labor for sodium lamp replacements at 4-5x the frequency are the real issue. With all of this in mind, I'm not sure why cities don't start using warmer LEDs. They are slightly less efficient than the full-spectrum LEDs that people don't like, but who cares, given they still last super long.
LindyMan@PaulSkallas

What's nice about Lisbon is they haven't switched to those bright white LED street lights yet. It's a city coated in orange.

@efwendt My personal preference is this layout: bike lane, protected lane, parking lane, and then driving lane. Protects bikers from car doors and drivers. Second set of photos are ones I took into Santa Cruz… without parking and then painted sharrows

Hey #biketwitter, I have a week to submit comments for our town's draft bike 🚲 plan. Show me your best examples of great bike lanes that have worked in a small rural town in a car-dependent area that gets solid winter. Plan is heavy on quick wins (mostly paint), and I'd like
