was hanging out with my 21 y/o cousin yesterday cs major, good grades, solid experience him and his friends are fed up with submitting 3000+ applications to fight over internships they’ve completely checked out that system after seeing the cal ai acquisition, they decided to lock tf in they’re building apps, taking one shot on goal every month as a small team of 3 many such cases gen z/gen alpha is waking up “corporate life” is not longer a career path graduating college in 2019/2020 was the last flight out of fallujah so to speak the only way to make it, is to make your own future making your own music, art, software, films, etc companies are shrinking in size applicants are increasing layoff are up he said something thatstuck with me “rn it’s easier to build your own thing than it is to find a job” hit it on the head

Announcing Canada’s first official @Replit community meetup 🇨🇦 May 6, Downtown Toronto. A few months ago I flew to SF for the @alifdotbuild x Replit no-code hackathon. First one I’ve been to in 10 years (I’m unc now). Built a game with my wife → won Best Design. Met some incredible people. Shoutout @amasad — even nicer in person. Came back to Toronto thinking: we need this energy here. So we’re bringing it. Demos, merch, refreshments....and Replit credits for all attendees. See what people have been building (from experienced founders to non-technical first time tinkerers). Already 300+ registered from a LinkedIn post 👀 Link to register and/or demo in comments below.

@nccm It’s frustrating that our sisters have to deal with this. Being visibly Muslim takes strength, especially with the rise in Islamophobia. May Allah reward you for every hardship you face, seen and unseen. Stay strong.

We are outraged by a recent incident of Islamophobia that occurred on the Durham Transit. A hijabi women travelling between Scarborough and Ajax was allegedly both verbally and physically assaulted. A man allegedly began yelling at her telling her to “f*** off, “b****, don’t sit next to me.”, as well as calling her a “terrorist”. The incident further escalated when the man began to physically assault her. Another hijabi passenger on the bus intervened. Violent Islamophobia continues to be on the rise. The fact that it constantly occurs in broad daylight in public spaces should send alarms to all levels of government, given Canada’s dark history with violent Islamophobia. We cannot afford to wait until an incident like this turns to murder yet again, all levels of government must condemn and take concrete action. We are in contact with the victim and local authorities.

Happy Eid, from Eid 🌙 Here are 5 things about Eid that just make sense: 1. After a month of fasting, we wake up early, put on our best clothes, and head to Eid prayer. The whole community is there. Kids are handing out goodie bags they put together the night before. You hear them running between rows, the smell of oud everywhere. 2. Eidiya. Older family members give money to the younger ones. Kids either spend it immediately on sweets or give it to their mom for "safekeeping" (they never see it again). Not ideal when you have 9 nieces and nephews. 3. My mom puts together a full Syrian Eid breakfast. The table is unreal. She makes three types of eggs and writes our names on the boiled ones. The whole family sits down together. I wait all year for this meal. 4. Then the visits start. We go to my uncles' and aunts' houses, and they come to ours. Coffee, desserts, repeat. You're dressed up the whole time. I have 20 uncles and aunts, so this is basically a full-day loop. 5. We end the day with a smaller dinner with our closest family. Everyone's socially drained, but our hearts and bellies are full. This is what makes Eid, Eid, for me. What's the one Eid tradition you'd never skip?
