@JLew1050 Do you not think that players like wemby, jokic and shai would be resting a lot more late in the season if not for this rule?

We don't need the rule for MVP; it's been 46 yrs since a player played fewer than 65 games in a full season & won it. But there are 15 spots for All-NBA. The idea that somebody who played 63 games couldn't possibly have a top-15 caliber season is ludicrous. What are we doing here

The 65-game rule remains problematic. With contract incentives tied to All-NBA and other awards, there's a lot of money at stake for many players. The spirit of the rule is to prevent healthy players from resting. Instead, it incentivizes injured players to put themselves at risk
Lev Akabas@LevAkabas

Nikola Jokic can only miss 1 more game and still be eligible for NBA awards Wemby can only miss 3 more Cade and Ant will likely be ineligible due to current injuries Get rid of the 65-game rule

@HPbasketball @NekiasNBA Nobody is stopping them from making money how they choose, but it is perfectly reasonable to be critical of what companies people choose to associate themselves with

I'm not libertarian in any sense and actively against that mindset in most things for public good, but there is a point where I'm just like "what business is it of ours how they make some extra money" and if the answer is "these things are harmful to the collective" which there is a very sound and rational case for, our focus should be on regulation and shifting public sentiment instead of identifying famous people who we like engaging with it for profit, is where I land, at least.

The Athletic’s Sam Amick says Bam Adebayo should have been pulled from the game out of respect for Kobe instead of scoring 83 “Judging by the reaction of some of the people from Bryant’s past, whom I was in touch with after Adebayo’s outing, this sentiment wasn’t unique.” (Via nytimes.com/athletic/71071…)

@pablofindsout hope it is on tom habertsroh making an intentionally misleading graphic, costing the great hard working american people multiples of the american median salary by causing them to bet on cade cunningham mvp, sending that money to scoundrel winning bettors and bookmakers

@Anthonysmdoyle @LAClippersFilm I think this is an misunderstanding of how gambling works. Gambling sponsors money id mostly made up of the vig charged on bets, not picking the winner. Additionally most gamblers bet overs so it would actually help sportsbooks when players only play half or three quarters

@LAClippersFilm The gambling partners care about tanking, because it makes the results of games harder to predict. This is about the gambling sponsors.

I think writing negatively about the NBA is a bit that gets a lot of clicks. I remain convinced that no one actually thinks tanking is that big of a deal. As long as a lottery is in place for a draft, tanking will occur. Can't have good teams w/o bad ones.

@JonesOnTheNBA But a small market team would never get a wemby/flagg level player in this instance. There would always be some bigger market team that makes cap room.

To the rebuttal that if there’s a can’t miss talent, the large market is going to clear out cap space. Well, if the large market is already good, they’re unlikely to just be able to maneuver to make space. And if they are, that means vet talent gets spread to another market.

@BarstoolNate @SamQuinnCBS The smaller market teams would only ever get second tier stars at best. There is no way that a wemby or flagg level player would end up in utah/memphis etc

@SamQuinnCBS I keep seeing this. Sure it *could* happen. But there's still only 15 roster slots, 5 starters, 1 ball. Not everyone can sign with the Knicks or Lakers. Players will want to forge their own paths. And you can play in Milwaukee and be as popular as someone on the Knicks.

@SamQuinnCBS Nothing. People are so mad at the tanking that they are not thinking of the unintended consequences that would come with this. The Jazz and the knicks would not be in the same sitaution simply because "everyone has the same cap".

@_Zeets And I'm not even defending him. He should try more. He IS coming off a knee injury that has resulted in him playing like ass the last two weeks, which needs to be acknowledged.

He gets defended so much for it. And it’s all “he doesn’t have to care about exhibition games” but no one else gets that. The conversation every All-Star weekend is that players should care more again and the structure gets changed constantly to ignite that. But he’s excepted.
Daman Rangoola@damanr

Jokic’s apathy as personality trait stuck out like a sore thumb in contrast to rest of All Star game and its lame as hell that as the best player in the world he feels no duty to be engaged in a league showcase. Massive double standard for how he gets talked about in this regard

@CodyEden @Tjonesonthenba I am not saying that Jazz are the cause of the problem, rather that there is a growing perception that teams arent trying which is contributing to the wider perception of the league. This isnt some conspiriacy, there are many national podcasts and shows that have discussed this

@ejay1111 @Tjonesonthenba I promise you that Utah's decision to play their key guys partial games instead of just sitting them has improved their ratings. At least from local viewers. Ain't no one nationally watching Utah this year either way

@Tjonesonthenba This isnt jazz specific but the idea that at least 20% of the league is actively trying to lose games is something that is not good for long term health of the product. If you tell your fans that the games dont matter long enough, ecentually they will believe you
