@DarcySutherlan4 Fans complain players only care about the £££ they earn playing for their club, there's nothing wrong with being gutted and kicking off cos you've not been picked, shows you care.

@smorgy13 @L1minus10 I think the sanction is fair. Teams lose a cup tie for fielding an ineligible player, you broke the rules here so fair the same thing happens. Consequences for saints are huge but that shouldn't determine the sanction. Feel sorry for fans but entirely the club's fault.

@L1minus10 Considering all of the possible misdemeanours a club could make .. it’s a ridiculously high tariff for a mid /mid-high range offence ! We can’t complain as we are to blame but the EFL have backed themselves into a corner with this level of sanction

@mister_firth Like it or not, Gemma Collins has millions of followers and reach with people unengaged in education. Educationists have a few thousand at most. So it was a bit cringe but I can understand why DfE did it and think they deserve a bit of credit for trying something different.

@LeagueOne25 Not sure why you'd choose that, unless it's linked to sponsors?

@Betfair @alanshearer Not a fan of any of these teams but find this argument completely bizarre. They stood to gain £200m by cheating - so by not allowing them to get away with it they've been "fined" £200m? Absolute bollocks.

@DeborahMeaden Bewildering responses. It's obviously untrue. 12,000 arrested (not jailed) under the malicious communications act. Stalking, harassment, online scams, hoax 999 calls. A few, very extreme cases of social media posts. Are people stupid or do they prefer living in cloudcuckooland?

@sistoney67 @SouthamptonFC The rules they broke were introduced AFTER Leeds were found guilty so comparison with Leeds is irrelevant. They're making themselves look even worse.

Told @SouthamptonFC lawyers were intending to work overnight re EFL appeal given time they were getting the precise reasons for decision. Club feel punishment exceptionally excessive, compared to Leeds. Club staff told by chief executive Phil Parsons club are confident yesterday's decision will be reversed. All parties agreed to get situation dealt with today so match can take place on Saturday.

@DeborahMeaden 12,000+ ARRESTS, 1,119 were PROSECUTED. There are 1,119 people who are currently sitting in prison for tweets. Are you happy with those numbers? Do you think that’s normal for a country with “free speech”? Have you researched any of these cases? No, you haven’t.

@DeborahMeaden When you are arrested. You go to Jail. It doesn't say convicted. 12000 arrests for social media post is fucking terrible. Don’t try to minimize this.

You’re technically correct, but also avoiding the main point of the argument. -arrests are still a big disincentive. Enough to buy the silence of ordinary people -it’s a large number compared to other countries -largely for comms that may be tasteful but are not threatening anyone in particular So the good faith engagement is explain how the scope of “hate speech” doesn’t just widen to anything the government is ideologically against
