I wonder what would happen if women just stopped doing the emotional labour? ‘Oh we haven’t seen your family in two years? Wow’ ‘Oh no did we miss your niece’s birthday?’ ‘I have no idea what there is to eat’ ‘I’ve no idea where your favourite top is, I didn’t know you had one!’

All that to say: don’t be in too much of a hurry to push your kids ahead in reading or math. My kids have definitely read more than yours. I’d put them up against anyone in the world…. Except this is not a competition. It’s really not.

@eduleadership @ckcera So you’re a misogynist AND you’re judging what people choose to read? You know reading can be for fun, right? It’s not strictly for education and it doesn’t have to be serious, or well-written. In a time of declining literacy, let’s not discourage folks from reading.

@eduleadership 😂 Bro, have you been to a library??? You are proof that having a PhD does not equal intelligence. I was an advanced reader from an early age and my parents never had an issue with me running out of books. Reading continues to be one of the primary joys in my life.

Let's say your kid reads many years above grade level, as mine do and always have. Guess what—that just means they run out of books to read faster than everyone else! What's the goal here? How does it benefit the child to pay $$$ to push them even farther out?

The academic acceleration maximalists are honestly worse than the sports dads living vicariously through their kids and making them hate the sport. Yes, you probably CAN push your kid to do 10th grade math in upper elementary school. But...why?

“It’s not happening.” When I was in kindergarten, a teacher told my mom that I would commit suicide by the time I was a teenager because they were encouraging me to learn too fast

Because I'm blind, an airline is saying I have to sit alone. We booked side-by-side seats. But when they found out I'm blind, they separated us. They're claiming it's their policy 1/7 #RightsOnFlights

"I don't think AI can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level....If that's where this industry is going, it's going to infantilize itself. We're all going to be watching stuff we've watched before, only worse." npr.org/2023/05/19/117…
