When was the last time you made a game? You’ve come after me before and it’s pathetic. We all know the problems in gamedev are executives who don’t know how to manage or fund projects. Just like you couldn’t manage or fund your own projects. Yet developers are constantly harassed by people who know nothing about what we do out of complete ignorance. Then get angry because we don’t want to hear their opinion on why unreal engine sucks? Like they even know what it is beyond a YouTube video. People want to know why their games suck? Not because the chefs can’t cook, but because the restaurant owner keeps cutting costs, firing the chefs and telling them to make meals they know people don’t want. I don’t mind if people tell me games I work on sucked. I learned early in my career I’d be working on some bad games. APB taught me that. But like many devs I just work hard at my own little corner. I don’t take it personally even if someone says my art is bad. But I don’t have to listen to someone tell me how to do my job better when they don’t know what my job even is. Or tell me how it is to work in games when they don’t know. Nobody ever starts these conversations in good faith and escalates them to “oh she doesn’t want to hear what I think about game design even though she isn’t a designer? Wow she’s everything wrong with games… concord or something. Wah.”

Just read the Montreal mass shooter's entire 104 page manifesto. I regret to inform you that it's actually pretty interesting. Ignore any simpleton who tries to reduce his ideology to simple "left" or "right" -- or even "incel."
His main ideological belief is opposing "hypergamy," which he blames for creating a social system where most men, he claims, are heinously deprived of female romantic connection. He therefore opposes capitalism, which he views as a primary enabler of hypergamy. He praises (what he calls) communist societies such as China, North Korea, and the Soviet Union, in contrast with the "West," because he claims communist societies are superior at engendering communal structures that facilitate monogamy, wherein the average man has better access to stable female partners. He does recommend reading the works of Marx, Stalin, Robespierre, and other Left-wing revolutionaries. He also attacks conservatives for "swindling" average men by getting them needlessly focused on supporting conservative politicians, who they are falsely led to believe will support their class interests. And he opposes Christianity.
However, he also inveighs against "mass immigration," cultural degeneracy, leftists, liberals, Trans Stuff, and so on. It appears he may have targeted his mass shooting attack at the headquarters and/or CEO of a porn company (PornHub?) in Montreal. Indeed, porn companies are one of the targets he recommends his followers planning attacks against, because he regards pornography as one of the vilest contributors to male suffering and larger cultural degeneracy.
He gives advice on how to cultivate good intellectual habits (reading lots of books, giving up video games, moderate physical conditioning, firearms training) so as to best enact revolutionary violence.
Here are the ideological movements he recommends followers of his movement infiltrate, if they are not inclined toward violence, and prefer to overthrow the "hypergamy state" through legal or political methods: conservative socialism, Duginism, communism, Islamic theocracy. So those are the ideological tendencies he would regard as most compatible with his own -- particularly, I would say, "conservative socialism." He attacks both Left and Right (not uncommon with Higher IQ mass shooters) and encourages assassinating both Left and Right-wing political figures.
This guy was not some mentally ill crank like some other mass shooters, nor was he one of the guys who just copy-and-pastes a pre-existing internet brain manifesto -- see the guys who did the San Diego mass shooting a few weeks ago. He is reasonably high-intelligence and well-read. "Incel"? Sure, I guess, but I've personally never seen an "incel" manifesto that is so well-versed in political economy, history, biology, literature, and even meticulously cites peer-reviewed studies.
This was a smart guy who knew exactly what he was doing, and planned it long in advance -- although it appears he wasn't successful in assassinating the PornHub CEO. He's substantively off on a lot of the gender stuff obviously, but he clearly spent a lot of time systematically thinking about it, and putting together what has got to be the most well-written mass shooter manifesto I've read in a long time.

The contrast between He-Man and Superman/Supergirl is so striking. While Superman couldn't stop congratulating itself on this imagined cultural revolution it thought it was leading (constantly declaring that "kindness is the new punk rock") while simultaneously dunking on real world figures like Elon Musk or critical fans (the bit with the monkeys) and Supergirl herself is outright mocking possibly the single largest ticket purchasing demographic (Christian dads), the cast and director of Masters of the Universe seem entirely focused on nothing more than loving these characters, telling a good story, having fun, and giving the fans what they want.
Such a breath of fresh air even if right now the box office isn't rewarding them for it.

Maybe people are just sick of seeing the lead characters either turn into something they aren't, or replaced all together?
I'd feel the same way if Lara Croft was replaced in Tomb Raider or Aloy was replaced by a dude in the next Horizon, or Samus Aran. I'd be asking "why?" just the same.
Very rarely does the opposite happen. Why is that?

Speaking as a big god of war fan and gamer in general btw..
So playing as a woman is not the issue here, the combat looks just fine to me as well, and it could integrate into the GOW story very well and introduce new mythologies and cool characters into the universe.
The problem is, like with many other games, there are too much signs that they have lost touch with their target audience and fan base, and their decisions reflect that. (talking sword, talking cube, purple flames, cheesy dialogue etc) In my opinion we already were starting to go that way slowly in Ragnarok. We have seen this before, and it always fails. why? Because to me this shows that they no longer have the franchise's best interested at heart.
They knew that these decisions were going to cause this discourse, and everyone who have seen the latest daredevil season knows they uglified the actress as well. When you have people being able to make a better character design with AI you also know they have done this on purpose, like we have seen many times before.
Even if you were going this route for the game while keeping the God of War title, just by making that simple change to the design for both the lead protagonist and in my opinion also what seems to be the main villain 👇
There has always been sexy designs in the original trilogy, there was a threesome minigame with two hot girls for crying out loud.
They would alleviate some of the backlash by going a different route on the designs.. NOW, Im not saying this is the way it should be, but it is just the way it is, and everyone knows it. Which in turn makes it even more clear that they don't have the games best interest at heart.
We have seen these red flags before and it always turn out the same, so why should people expect this case to be different?
I really hope we are all wrong though and that the game is great, as I am sure we all want more great GOW games. That's my take on the matter, leave yours below 💬 GOODDAYY

No one is mad because you play as a woman. People are clowning God of War: Laufey because it looks bad.
The design looks weak. The gameplay looks bland. The whole thing feels uninspired. And instead of accepting that criticism, people are pretending "chud" gamers only hate it because of the female lead.
That’s the real cope.
“If you don’t like it, don’t buy it” is what people say when they can’t defend the game.
Gamers aren’t rage-baited. The defenders are.

Angel of Darkness had a 2nd playable character that was a guy. Set up for a spin off that would have surely had the Tomb Raider branding.
But the game bombed.
So I guess they shouldn't include male characters.

This is an L take from Ethan. You can apply this logic to fucking Tomb Raider. If they’d replaced Lara with some random guy, gamers would be pissed that Lara’s not the main character of HER game. God of War is Kratos, gamers are there for Kratos. Simple.

The best example and argument I heard for this was what would people's reactions be if the new Tomb Raider was all of a sudden, a dude and Lara Crofts husband Lance Croft. I can't imagine people would be okay with that. At least they made Uncharted instead when they wanted a similar vibe.

I don't follow the NFL closely enough to make a statement on that but none what you mention screams appeal to women specifically.

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 20 YEARS, THE GAME ISN’T ABOUT KRATOS. it's about Faye - his dead wife. the woman whose funeral opened the entire Norse saga. and if your first thought is "who cares about her," that's the trick the last two games played on you. everything you did, she had already prepared: - she marked the trees and set the path that would reveal the full prophecy - she sent Kratos and Atreus on the exact journey they needed to become who they had to be - she stayed so hidden that the gods were still hunting her long after she was ashes - and through all of it, she was never once playable. just a body on a pyre. a face in flashbacks. Kratos didn't lead that saga. he followed it. we played the man three steps behind his wife. now we finally play the woman who was three steps ahead of everyone.

Saying men are misogynist over GOW is so dumb. Are we going to ignore how popular Metroid was, or Tomb Raider games? Control and Mirrors Edge were terrific and widely loved Nier and Bayonetta have HUGE fan bases. Resident Evil 3 is arguably the best RE game

@el_chiclets @Swilsonn36 If you lose your main audience to do it it’s not really worth it and we constantly see this happening all over the place with male dominated spaces and then men slowly start leaving and then running from the product and then they act surprised that the product starts failing.
