First week back at the gym after 4 years away - some observations • Heavy weight isn't required. Lifting for strength is one thing, and I think every now and then everyone should run a session focused on strength. But if muscle is your goal, all that matters is targeted tension. Become a master of moving the weight with only the target muscle • Most people finish their sets without any visible signs of distress. If you want to change your body, this isn't going to get it done. No one cares what you're doing, so don't be afraid to make faces and breath heavy. If you stop your sets at the first sign of discomfort, you're missing out on the highest value reps • Change all of your thinking from I "have" to and reframe it to I "get" to. If you have an able body and you're not challenging yourself physically in some way - you're lazy. It's not about aesthetics, it's about being capable and developing mental resilience • Most people are still using a balanced cadence - 2 seconds eccentric, 2 seconds concentric. Try 4 seconds on the way down and explosive on the way up. Just make sure you start the movement up using only the target muscle. Learn to contract muscles from being stretched with rapid force. Slow eccentric has been shown to be superior for building muscle • Lifting and the gym might not be your thing, and that's fine, but there are endless activities to get involved with that will get you moving and stimulated in a healthy way. I've had seasons where I've been forced to the sidelines and I can assure you, I'm a completely different person when I'm physically active. Put the phone down and get moving

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.
