@murphsturph @mttlnrd @MattBrownEP @WRALmartha Or maybe they categorize their sponsorship dollars in a different category. Seems like someone who is an investigative reporter would investigate the source and “why is it different?” than just regurgitating obviously flawed data. @WRALmartha

@ellocolobos @mttlnrd @MattBrownEP @WRALmartha 1) That's for 2025-26, which was not referenced in the tweet. 2) I'm assuming you're referring to the Wolfpack Sports Properties line. I'm not sure that all of that money flows into the royalties/licensing/sponsorship line referenced in the tweet.

But their schedule would be awful since NC State gets scheduling priority and the Hurricanes variable is tough enough. Don't see it happening and in this neighborhood, don't believe NBA would flourish with the NC State/UNC/Duke basketball market at all.
Rob McLamb@RobMcLamb

The Trail Blazers are owned by the same man that owns the Carolina Hurricanes. Raleigh has a nearly 20k seat arena ready to use. I’m not saying the NBA to Raleigh happens nor am I saying the Blazers move (I’d love the former, hate the latter), but I don’t put it past Dundon.

Would be interesting to see the disconnect of this data with how schools report. For example, NC State within their FY25 Athletic Annual Report noted a $4M revenue from solely Digital Advertisements. $3.3M more from licensing/royalties in a separate article. Something is off.
Brian Murphy@murphsturph

To piggyback off @MattBrownEP: Here are the numbers I have for UNC and NC State for royalties, licensing, advertisements and corporate sponsorships. There is a huge difference. UNC 2024-25: $23.9M 2023-24: $14.0M 2022-23: $16.4M NC State: 2024-25: $2.4M 2023-24: $2.5M 2022-23: $2.3M

@murphsturph @mttlnrd @MattBrownEP But you attended the same trustee meeting (or at least reported on it) that the NC State Athletics revenue budget for corporate sponsorships is over $10M annually. You appear to have a few screws loose and should remove “investigative” from your title.Use your brain! @WRALmartha

@murphsturph @MattBrownEP This report must not be pulling data correctly as NC State’s Athletics Budget posted on the university’s website says over $10M in corporate sponsorships for Athletics.

@DukeEchoes I recall hearing a radio interview that when Shane talked with Dean Smith to let him know he was choosing Duke, Dean hung up on him.

One of the more interesting recruiting stories from the 1990s involves former Duke legend Shane Battier. Battier grew tired of coaches calling at all hours, so he gave each school a specific Monday night time slot to contact him. Most respected it. Then Rick Pitino called (on a Wed night) outside his assigned time slot. Battier thanked him for the call, hung up, and told his mother to remove Kentucky from his list of schools. His reasoning was if a coach didn’t respect his rules during recruiting, why would he respect him as a player if he goes there? One phone call. Kentucky was out. That was it for Shane. CRAZY! Tomorrow's game against North Carolina A&T has been mutually agreed to be canceled. We will be back at the Doak on Thursday, May 14th, for the final regular season series against UNC. 📰: bit.ly/4u16PTN

@murphsturph Pretty sure those are existing cases - university requires re-approval after a set number of years. Nothing new there. They weren’t all named when Reynolds was redone. Conmon practice.

NC State plans to sell naming rights to 27 display cases around Reynolds Coliseum. Would raise $1.75M for a restricted fund to provide support for Reynolds capital projects. Trustees will consider tomorrow.

Donating to college athletics WAS a noble cause. You helped young people get an education and support your Alma mater. We Got to watch them as the matured academically and athletically and with some luck maybe your program won some and/or you got to see a program great that would go onto represent your university at a higher level. Worst case scenario was you helped young people become a part of your alumni family. Now? Winning is just who has the most money. Education doesn’t matter. Program all time great will never happen except at the richest schools. Players are not a part of your family. I keep asking people like @JayBilas and @WinterSportsLaw why should supporters at schools that are not big brands bother to watch, donate or buy tickets? If we can’t win, education doesn’t matter and we won’t have program greats to follow - what’s the reason for us to continue? They won’t answer. Because they can’t.

@Mr704intheQC Totally agree. I hope for football, there is a breakaway (not the top 8-12 schools breaking away from the rest of the pack, but the rest of the pack breaking away from the top 8-12 schools . They refuse to play them - let them beat up and play each other all 12 weeks

@ncsuwolfpack12 NC State has never had a policy starting seniors on senior day. Hell, Tim Wells, who was previously a starter , didn’t even get in the game on his Senior Day.

We have to choose 5 out of 7 seniors to start Saturday - Breed will likely get another year of eligibility so I wouldn’t start him - QC, Snell, Lubin, and Ebube deserve to start - I’d bench Tre over Darrion Start Snell if you want the crowd into it early. He deserves it

@AGoldFan Let’s rip the whole band-aid off. Let’s make them employees and pros. Institute a draft of high school kids - multi-year contracts, salary caps, they can get traded and cut, just like the big boys. PCFL - pro college fb league. Then create an alt league for kids to earn degree

NC State’s NIL agreement says athletes can lose 50% of their payment if confidentiality terms are leaked. Even if the leak comes from parents, agents, or attorneys. NIL clauses like NC State's don’t just hurt athletes — they create financial risk, discourage participation, raise legal/ethical concerns, and could set a dangerous trend across college sports.
