Like all of you, I am mourning Charlie Kirk. He stood up for his beliefs and died for them at 31, wearing a T‑shirt that read "Freedom." At 31, my life was taken from me for standing up for what I believed in. And Charlie helped me get it back. He never took credit for it but he played a BIG role in my freedom in many ways. Last year alone, when President Trump won the election, he asked Charlie what was the #1 thing he could do for him and Charlie replied: "Free Ross." And in the days leading to my release, Charlie advocated for a full pardon. He did this and more without expectations of me. I wish there was something I could do to help Charlie get his life back. But there isn't, and I'm heartbroken. Charlie, I will always be grateful to you. Thank you for all you did for me and for our country. I pray for you and your beautiful family. Rest in peace.

If you wanna know how overengineering in web dev is going: Yesterday someone asked me how I built my startup and I made up an extremely convoluted tech stack While in fact it's built with just PHP and jQuery At this point over 800 people have bookmarked the tweet

@johanbrichau I totally agree. I'll take `html`, or even `canvas`, over `aWACanvas` any day. What I don't want, and I guess this is a pet peeve of mine, is to read `aSeasideCanvas` in their place. Having found a couple of these spurred me to rant about it. 😅

@emaringolo I used a Boolean as an example. I would use a type-revealing name only when there is no useful intention-revealing name I can give it. E.g. ‘startIndex’ over ‘anInteger’ or ‘html’ over ‘aWAHtmlCanvas’.

"Naming Smalltalk method parameters", a short blog that I hope will get me blogging again after a long time of wanting to, but not writing (and thus not sharing) my thoughts. dev.to/emaringolo/nam…

@johanbrichau Boolean parameters are something else IMO, I don't have a strong opinion on `isWriteable` over `writeable` as a parameter name, but I prefer `writeable` over `isWriteable` as an instVar name.

@emaringolo I often prefer intention-revealing names over type-revealing names. Instead of ‘writeable: aBoolean’, I would use ‘writeable: isWriteable’ because later on in the method body, you then have ‘isWriteable ifTrue:[…]’ instead of ‘aBoolean ifTrue:[…]’

@TorstenAstares Seaside dispatchers are intended to register handlers in a tree-path. It is not to be mistaken with the path specifications inside a REST handler, which consumes the path part that remains.

It's been an amazing week at #Smalltalks2023, meeting friends, colleagues and customers; learning new things and what others are doing. Thanks @fast_arg for the organization of this event, looking forward to attend next year!
