Without the Igbos. 2019: As incumbent, Buhari fared modestly better in the East - 403,968 votes from approximately 2.22 million cast, representing roughly 18%. What changed between 2015 and 2019, the Igbo did not have one of their own in the race. 2015 was between Goodluck Azikwe Ebele Jonathan, whom many Igbos as largely one of their own and Buhari who is a core Northerner. But 2019 was different, it was a race between two Northerners without an Igbo man on the main ticket of the major parties, so the East did not feel personally invested in the election. I remembered one time my aunt called me and told me her friends son was looking for a girl friend I told her I wasn't interested she kept saying I should go on a date with him atleast to know him first. I didn't want to but for my aunts sake I did. She sent my number to him,he was 3 yrs older than me,we talked on phone and fixed a date. He sent me 500k for my outfit for the date. I told him later I wont be coming alone as my friends also needed to know him. He agreed,on the day of the date. He sent the location of the restaurant, saying we should go there he'll meet us up. We got there and I called him ,he asked us to eat anything we wanted he's on his way. So we ordered for food. While we were eating he walked and he looked unhappy after seeing my friends, he whispered to me he thought it was just one friend he wasn't expecting to see 3,and complained we ordered too much,lmao like what do you mean. My friends felt something was off but kept calm. We ate and talked, he didn't even come with flowers another red flag. After everything he decided to drop us off,could you believe when we came out we saw the toy he parked outside and called car. My friends immediately started laughing, I was so embarrassed, I asked him again to make sure if there was a mistake . He said that was his car. I was so embarrassed, my friends left me there and got home. He dropped me off and said we should go to the movies the next day,I just quietly came down nd went inside my house.
