A reminder that Europe’s countryside still hides big asymmetries between value and price 🇪🇺 Not a second-home type, but still the kind of undervalued opportunity I look for 🌞 For more info, comment or DM me, and share the first tweet if you found it interesting 🙏

135 hectares of land sold at a closed bankruptcy auction. Starting bid €615,000, roughly €0.45 per m² for hills, olive groves, forests and a 1900s noble villa. One of the extremer cases of undervaluation and value distortion I’ve seen. 📍Moiano | Umbria 🇮🇹

Seems like a historic problem that turned into a self-reinforcing structural one: Before the unified kingdom in 1861: • The North was tied into European trade and finance networks and began industrializing early • The South was a feudal, agrarian monarchy with large estates and little middle class After unification: • Education lagged early on; literacy in the South was only about half of the North’s level (or much lower) • Northern elites dominated the new state and its policies • The new tax system weighed heavily on the South and helped service national debt • Capital and banking were concentrated in the North, so profits rarely circulated back into the South • Public spending mostly went to northern and central regions Post-war: • The Cassa per il Mezzogiorno law (1950) tried to fix it, investing billions in southern infrastructure • But corruption and short political cycles meant few lasting industries took root • It was abolished in 1984 and replaced by regional development programs with similar issues

I have never understood the massive economic divide in Italy. Why is the North with its various industries one of the wealthiest areas in Europe, but the South so extremely poor? Same country, same language, same laws and taxes. Can someone please explain?

@Maro2Bear Me too! The pool and jacuzzi are amazing. Perfect for anyone who loves rural peace but doesn’t mind a 90-minute drive to Seville for a bit more urban life. Would you consider it?

@zerotaxmindset Thank you! Do you think it’s mostly for the residency perks, or just lack of awareness about what you can get elsewhere?

@emra_cc I still don’t understand why people drop $1M on a mediocre property for Dubai Golden Visa instead of putting that money into stunning real estate elsewhere. Btw great info, Marcel.

What’s nearby: • 15 min to Algodonales for cafés and markets • 25 min to Zahara de la Sierra • 90 min to Seville or airports • 2 h to the Costa del Sol Rural peace, yet well connected to Andalucía’s highlights.
