Content creator Boss Toyo apologized after questioning veteran journalist Kara David’s I-Witness documentary on an illegal dumpsite in Aeta ancestral lands in Subic in Zambales.
The controversy began after Boss Toyo (Jayson Jay Luzadas)—in a now-deleted Facebook post about the documentary captured by fellow creator Boss Seth—accused the team behind it of allegedly using the Indigenous community for “content and politikal agenda.”
In a separate post on July 18, where the comments section is turned off, Luzadas claimed he visited the “ground zero” of the Subic dumpsite and said his observations differed from what was presented in the report. He said he did not notice a foul odor or a significant presence of flies during his visit.
He also said the Aeta community he encountered was located at the foot of the mountain and that there were no other houses nearby.
Luzadas also claimed that the dumpsite’s land was privately owned, a statement that contradicts the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples’ confirmation that the affected area was part of an ancestral domain.
Responding through the comments section of Boss Seth’s post, David defended the documentary’s reporting process, noting that her team spent more than a month investigating the issue before the documentary aired.
“DENR mismo ang nagpasara sa dumpsite dahil ito ay declared illegal,” David said, referring to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
She reiterated the NCIP's comment on the land's ownership, and noted that they interviewed Aeta residents. "At para patas, kinuha din namin ang panig ng mayor’s office. Malinaw na may paglabag sa batas at sinabi ng mayor’s office, we accept accountability," she said.

On July 19, Lozandas issued an apology over the “narrative” that came from his visit, saying he did not intend to argue with critics and was only sharing what he personally observed.
“Pasensya po sa lahat. Pasensya po kung iba po ang naging punto ko sa punto ninyo,” Luzadas wrote.
He added that he had no intention of engaging in arguments, saying, “Wala po akong planong makipagtalo o argumento,” while maintaining that his statements were based on what he encountered at the dumpsite.
Luzadas also shifted the discussion toward the broader issue of waste management, urging the public to reduce the use of single-use and non-recyclable plastics.
Luzadas is known for his YouTube series Pinoy Pawnstars, where he buys rare items and memorabilia from Filipino personalities.

The Philippines has finalized plans to purchase two follow-up Frigates for the @Philippine_Navy 🇵🇭, and has commenced the relevant procedures. The new Frigate deal, worth 800B to KRW1 trillion is expected by year-end. This is seperate from the add'l Frigates acquired last year.

The Secretary of National Defense Gilbert Teodoro presented a proposal that will help increase the overall defense budget, which is to set it to at least 4% of Gross Domestic Product, in a gradual increase implementation in order for the country to deter threats from its overseas adversaries. As part of this food for thought, the table below presented the figures of what the 4% of the Gross Domestic Product would look like on the basis of the defense budget as comparative to the economic performance of the country based on the data provided by the World Bank. Based on the data below, a 4% Gross Domestic Product defense budget costs at around US$ 20.488 Billion or Php 1.263 Trillion Pesos, which means sufficient space for bulk purchasing needed military hardware and munitions required for the country's deterrence. In comparison, the budget of the defense department under the 2026 General Appropriations Act tops at Php 305 Billion, plus Php 151 Billion if it includes the graduity and pension benefits for the military and uniformed personnel already retired from service. While the amount presented might give an opportunity for the Department of National Defense to provide a more credible increase of its overall capabilities that aligns deterrence and government policy relative to its assurance for territorial integrity, this will present problems for the likes of the Department of Budget and Management and the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) to realize this proposal, as it will strain the limited financial resources that the government has to operate and provide its services to the public. The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Tuesday said the continued silence of the Chinese Embassy in Manila over a controversial claim by Chinese scholars that Batanes belongs to Taiwan—therefore to China—could eventually lead to the assertion becoming the official position of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
“In an autocratic state, nothing happens in isolation. The approach of utilizing a group of academics to give out a stand could be considered a Track 2.0 event [unofficial diplomacy]. If there is no pushback to this, this will become a semi-party or semi-state stand,” AFP spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad (Reserve) told reporters at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
“Without any pushback, this will become the official party stand, and it would now become part of this pushback towards the Philippines. It is very important that statements like this should be answered not only by the embassy but by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he added.

Senator-judge Robin Padilla asked NBI senior agent John Mark Calilung whether he had secured the original file of the video in which Vice President Sara Duterte allegedly made grave threats against the president, the first lady, and the former House speaker.
Calilung said he did not obtain the original file, adding that the video was publicly available and that he had recorded it using open broadcaster software (OBS).
Padilla earlier sought clarification on whether the person who originally recorded the video had executed an affidavit.

According the the newest reports provided by South Korean outlets, the shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will commence production of the two (2) additional Miguel Malvar-class guided missile frigate within the month or by next month of this year.
This comes as we previously reported that this is an inventory-based item and it does not require an intensive critical design review for the finalization of the design itself, although there will be some subsystems improvement that will differentiate itself from the two (2) Miguel Malvar frigates already serving the fleet.
Understanding the construction timeline of the Korean shipbuilder, it is likely that the first ship get its keel laying at the latter part of the year or by first quarter of the year 2027, and the first ship be delivered before President Marcos Jr steps down from power in 2028. All of the two (2) frigates will be fully delivered by 2029.
