This deeply resonates. As physicians, we’re often reminded—sometimes too late—that we are replaceable at work, but not in our families or our own lives. We need to build teams and cultures that recognize this, and intentionally pass that message on to our trainees & colleagues.

Thrilled to receive a grant to study #levothyroxine overuse, the 3rd most prescribed medication in the US. Many prescriptions are unnecessary. Grateful for the support to tackle this important issue! @VAResearch @AmThyroidAssn @TheEndoSociety @TheAACE @vahsrd

Researchers have finally answered one of pop culture’s most enduring questions: do all superheroes wear capes? 💥 A new study by researchers from University of Galway, University of Florida, and University of Arkansas reveals that altruism, not accessories, defines a true superhero. 🦸‍♀️ After analysing 97 characters from the top 25 highest-grossing superhero films, the study found that 98% of heroes share one trait: a mission to help others. From Superman to frontline healthcare workers, it’s the commitment to the greater good that makes someone a hero, not their costume. 🧠 The study, published in the Irish Journal of Medical Science, also explores the impact of the “healthcare hero” narrative during COVID-19, including the risk of burnout. 💬 “Capes may look dramatic, but it’s altruism that truly defines a superhero.” – Dr Derek O’Keeffe, University of Galway.
