My Leadership 🔴⚫🤛 Let me pinpoint the critical issue of hijacked buildings and neglected residential properties across the City. To effectively address this problem, I propose the introduction of a new law that empowers the government to take decisive action. The law should allow the state to: Inspect any buildings or properties that have not been properly maintained for a specified period (e.g., several months). Conduct municipal debt assessments on these properties. If the properties are found to be in breach of any municipal bylaws, the state should be granted the legal right through a court order to take over management or ownership of the property. This court order can be served on the registered owners or the property management company, who would then have the opportunity to respond or resolve any disputes. Furthermore, where owners fail to respond or comply, the state should have the authority to impose strong penalties for building negligence and outstanding rates. This could include the power to sell or rent out the properties to third parties. The revenue generated from these actions can be used to recover the significant municipal debts and to restore the buildings. There are thousands of such hijacked and neglected properties in our city. Many legitimate owners have been forced to abandon their properties out of fear for their lives. It is the responsibility of the state to take firm control of this crisis, protect property rights where possible, and put maximum pressure on negligent owners and hijackers alike to restore order and safety in our communities. I urge leadership to prioritise this matter and drive the necessary legislative and operational changes to resolve it effectively. WE ARE VOTING THE EFF 🔴⚫
