@Frances_Coppola Surely the majority of the straits have Spanish and Moroccan borders. Gibraltar is a small blip on that map and only significantly British while the locals want it so. Gibraltar has moved closer to Europe at every available step since Brexit.

@afneil Equinor is 67% owned by the Norwegian government. While their product is sold at market rates, they keep the majority of the value. It's a big difference to the UK.

Nearly all Norwegian gas is sold into the European market at prevailing market prices ie it’s a free market. It is not sold ‘cheaply’ in the domestic Norwegian market. The Norwegian people benefit from taxes on gas, the jobs it generates and the boost to the balance of payments, just as the British people similarly benefit, now on a smaller scale, from gas extracted from our part of the North Sea.
PAD@68PAD

@afneil Norway own theirs and use it for the good of the people we chose to place ours in the hands of free market capitalists , we can however control the price of renewables that we produce ourselves , not saying we can’t do both but don’t see the long term solution is anti net zero

@revpaulwhite I'm an. Atheist and impressed. To have a 'western' religious leader be so clear about right and wrong is really painting the fake bible study sessions in the Oval Office as what they are.

@YvetteCooperMP This law is just the latest injustice. Do something REAL instead of writing letters. You have powers. Stop selling arms. Bring the matter to the G7, UN and even work actively with your European colleagues to sanction people live Ben Gvir and Netanyahu.

Israel must immediately repeal the discriminatory death penalty law passed today by the Knesset, as it contravenes Israel’s obligations under international law. The United Nations opposes the death penalty under all circumstances. The implementation of this new law would violate international law's prohibition of cruel, inhuman or degrading punishment. Additionally, this law further entrenches Israel’s violation of the prohibition of racial segregation and apartheid as it will exclusively apply to Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Israel, who are often convicted after unfair trials. Read @UNHumanRights earlier statement and analysis about the death penalty draft bill: ohchr.org/en/press-relea…

@chris_kratovil Ah. The value of an Eton education. Quotes the classics freely but behaves dishonestly - lies, gives our money to his tart, illegally prorogued parliament, gave his friend Darius journalists personal details to have him beaten up.... What a fucking star!

It’s not every day that one gets to listen to a former British Prime Minister recite from memory the opening passages of The Iliad in Ancient Greek, with no notes, in response to a random question from an undergraduate—and all while wearing what appear to be Thomas The Tank Engine socks. But today was one such day. My thanks to my good friend Brad LaMorgese for the opportunity to see the colorful and comic Boris Johnson speak tonight at the University of Dallas.

Just spoke to @POTUS about our European allies’ unwillingness to provide assets to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning, which benefits Europe far more than America. I have never heard him so angry in my life. I share that anger given what’s at stake. The arrogance of our allies to suggest that Iran with a nuclear weapon is of little concern and that military action to stop the ayatollah from acquiring a nuclear bomb is our problem not theirs is beyond offensive. The European approach to containing the ayatollah’s nuclear ambitions have proven to be a miserable failure. The repercussions of providing little assistance to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning are going to be wide and deep for Europe and America. I consider myself very forward-leaning on supporting alliances, however at a time of real testing like this, it makes me second guess the value of these alliances. I am certain I am not the only senator who feels this way.

One in five university students in Britain say they wouldn’t share a house with a Jewish student - and yet many voice their support for an Iranian regime whose soldiers gang-raped two nurses so violently they had to have their internal organs removed. How have we arrived at this point?

So let me get this right. The US can find and kill a leader of a foreign country halfway around the world. But they can't find any of the paedophiles and child traffickers from the Epstein list and arrest any of them in their own country?

Claims that 75% of England’s mayors are Muslim have gone viral online. We could only find evidence that three of the country’s 27 directly elected mayors are Muslim, and there isn’t an official complete list of all the civic mayors. fullfact.org/culture-and-so…

“Israel is committing war crimes before our eyes” 24 July 2025 Such disgusting complicity to say this in private only
Politics UK@PolitlcsUK

🚨 NEW: Wes Streeting has published his WhatsApp messages with Peter Mandelson "I am toast at the next election" [28/03/2025, 11:36:06] Wes Streeting: I fear we're in big trouble here - and I am toast at the next election. We just lost our safest ward in Redbridge (51% Muslim, Ilford S) to a Gaza independent. At this rate I don't think we'll hold either of the two Ilford seats. [28/03/2025, 11:39:54] Wes Streeting: There isn't a clear answer to the question: why Labour? [28/03/2025, 11:48:44] Lord Mandelson: The government doesn't have an economic philosophy which is then followed through in a programme of policies. [28/03/2025, 11:49:15] Wes Streeting: No growth strategy at all "Israel is committing war crimes" [24/07/2025, 23:00:29] Wes Streeting: Am sure this will come up in coming days, so wanted to check in with you on recognition of Palestine and the domestic politics of it. Keir's statement today was excellent, but Macron's statement tonight ups the ante. Morally and politically, I think we need to join France. Morally, because Israel is committing war crimes before our eyes. Their government talks the language of ethnic cleansing and I have met with our own medics out there who describe the most chilling and distressing scenes of calculated brutality against women and children. Politically, a Commons vote will be engineered in September on recognition and we will lose it if we're not ahead of it. There are no circumstances in which people like me or Shabana could abstain or vote against, for example. Conference will be a sea of Palestinian flags and the moderates will be waving them. We need to be leading the charge on this. The alternative is being dragged there with enormous damage to Keir, the govt and the party. I've never been a shrinking violent on Israel. I've supported LFI for over 20 years. Our sister party, Haaretz, and progressives are clear about what's being done in their name and they oppose it. I appreciate these things are always more complicated than they appear to those of us who aren't up close as you are and I also appreciate how much Keir and David are giving to this personally. But it is what it is. We need to lead, not follow. [24/07/2025, 23:11:47] Lord Mandelson: I can see all this but I am worried that such a gesture now could blow a 2 SS out of the water if Israel decided that unilateral recognition justified further WB annexation which the US would be powerless to stop or reverse. That would be the end of it. So I think we need to employ practical means to get a 2SS, not quickly I grant but realistically. The PA with reform and new leadership can advance this with Arab/US/European support. The alternative is a further deadlocked death spiral on an even greater scale than now. [24/07/2025, 23:12:10] Wes Streeting: Israel is doing it anyway. [24/07/2025, 23:12:39] Wes Streeting: This is rogue state behaviour. Let them pay the price as pariahs with sanctions applied to the state, not just a few ministers.

Starmer isn't in the Epstein files. Farage is. Yes Starmer's appt of Mandelson was a dreadful decision but the British press seem to think that we must hold Starmer to account because he is the PM but at the same time we must completely ignore Farage's mentions because he might become one?! Can someone explain this to me?
