I've hired dozens of salespeople. It took me a decade to finally spot the rockstars.
These are the 10 best people to look for, hands down:
1. Former door-to-door reps. They’ve already cut their teeth on the hardest kind of cold selling. Zero fear of rejection.
2. Ex-college or pro cheer/dance/performers. They're used to nonstop hustle, crowd-facing energy, and thriving under pressure.
3. Immigrants / first-gen hustlers. They usually have that “nothing to lose” drive, work ethic, and resilience you can’t teach.
4. Ex-bartenders / service-industry. Fast-talking, read people in seconds, thrive in chaotic environments.
5. Failed startup founders. They’ve had to sell product, themselves, and a dream. They have scars and persistence to show for it.
6. Former D1 athletes. Fiercely competitive. Hire 2 for the same role & you'll get 3x the output
7. Former LDS missionaries. They get rejected 10,000 times in 2 years & work insanely hard
8. Former marines. I don't know what it is about marines, but they're built different.
9. High energy extroverts. We ask all applicants to score themselves on an introvert - extrovert scale from 1 - 10. We only interview 9s and 10s.
10. Single moms. Most have a chip on their shoulder and insane time management skills. They'll get the same job done in half the time.
