We should be moving to ketamine faster for refractory status. In this meta-analysis 1. Response rate was 64% 2. Median maintenance dose 2.5 mg/kg/hr, 3. Dose was the same between responders and non-responders. But... responders were started on KET earlier (3.2 vs 4.3 days) 4. Avg duration of KET 5 days 5. Minimal complications (<1%) #curingcoma neurology.org/doi/10.1212/CP…

Status epilepticus = status epilepticus? Are all status epilepticus equal? No!!! In a population-based study in Denmark, all patients with, for example, juvenile myoclonic epilepsy or other idiopathic generalized epilepsy AND status epilepticus were examined.

This indicate that status epilepticus in IGE patients is a distict disease entity. Read the article in Epilepsia: lnkd.in/eVYr3ph7

All-cause mortality was nevertheless increased, albeit at a low level. The causes of death were all attributable to social disadvantage. These results differ completely from other forms of status epilepticus, which have a mortality rate of over 50%!

Here are our main findings: 📈 Status epilepticus proved to be a disease affecting socially disadvantaged patients. 📊 A status epilepticus episode had no significant impact on social indicators—income and labor market attachment remained unchanged.

Status Epilepticus Protocols vary a lot from center to center. In this analysis of protocols from >200 centers, 1/3 did not specify optimal door-to-needle times, and 15% specified doses that are under what is recommended. We need #CodeICH for SE neurology.org/doi/10.1212/WN…

Cool study of cEEG in acute liver failure. 40% w/ PEDs, 8% w/ electrographic status. Guess what? That doesn’t predict mortality. What does? Progressive decline in background amplitude and frequency. Just like in cardiac arrest. #curingcoma link.springer.com/article/10.100…
