Vero? Certamente. Siamo di fronte ad un miracolo? No, i miracoli non esistono.

I am the Ukrainian skeleton racer who was wrongfully disqualified from the Olympics last month because of my “Memory Helmet.” Tonight in Milano-Cortina, the Paralympic Games are opening. The Committee has bizarrely permitted Russian soldier-athletes to participate under the Russian flag. The head of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) literally stated that they don’t care about what Russian soldiers did in Ukraine. The problem is that we do care. They are killing Ukrainians on the battlefield, bombing our cities, and committing genocide. Now, with this step of allowing them to compete, the IPC is giving them the opportunity to continue committing genocide by spreading Russian narratives with Russian flags and symbols. They try to manipulate the situation by pointing out that the movement started after World War II, but during World War II the Olympic Games were cancelled, and German athletes were not invited and did not take part in the Games until 1952. It looks like the head of the IPC doesn’t know the history of the Olympic and Paralympic movement at all. What a shame. This whole story is just getting worse and worse.

🚨BREAKING: OpenAI published a paper proving that ChatGPT will always make things up. Not sometimes. Not until the next update. Always. They proved it with math. Even with perfect training data and unlimited computing power, AI models will still confidently tell you things that are completely false. This isn't a bug they're working on. It's baked into how these systems work at a fundamental level. And their own numbers are brutal. OpenAI's o1 reasoning model hallucinates 16% of the time. Their newer o3 model? 33%. Their newest o4-mini? 48%. Nearly half of what their most recent model tells you could be fabricated. The "smarter" models are actually getting worse at telling the truth. Here's why it can't be fixed. Language models work by predicting the next word based on probability. When they hit something uncertain, they don't pause. They don't flag it. They guess. And they guess with complete confidence, because that's exactly what they were trained to do. The researchers looked at the 10 biggest AI benchmarks used to measure how good these models are. 9 out of 10 give the same score for saying "I don't know" as for giving a completely wrong answer: zero points. The entire testing system literally punishes honesty and rewards guessing. So the AI learned the optimal strategy: always guess. Never admit uncertainty. Sound confident even when you're making it up. OpenAI's proposed fix? Have ChatGPT say "I don't know" when it's unsure. Their own math shows this would mean roughly 30% of your questions get no answer. Imagine asking ChatGPT something three times out of ten and getting "I'm not confident enough to respond." Users would leave overnight. So the fix exists, but it would kill the product. This isn't just OpenAI's problem. DeepMind and Tsinghua University independently reached the same conclusion. Three of the world's top AI labs, working separately, all agree: this is permanent. Every time ChatGPT gives you an answer, ask yourself: is this real, or is it just a confident guess?

Thanks @LockedFab for the incredible work scrutinizing these shameful publications from @IHU_Marseille. Three years ago, we raised concerns about 456 publications (link.springer.com/article/10.118…). There are now many more, and already 60 have been retracted. An absolute disgrace for French research — and the new EoCs confirm that the new leadership at @IHU_Marseille has changed nothing. Absolutely nothing. This French research scandal made headlines in @ScienceMagazine, @Nature, and @guardian. Yet @IHU_Marseille keeps training students while seemingly unable to conduct ethical research. science.org/content/articl… science.org/content/articl… nature.com/articles/d4158… nature.com/articles/d4158… theguardian.com/world/2023/aug… Add to this the online harassment reportedly carried out by several @IHU_Marseille researchers (per @timeshighered): “Eric Chabriere’s attacks against critics of hydroxychloroquine are seen as a sign of the social-media-induced radicalisation that has occurred during the pandemic” And cases of harassment and sexual assault (one researcher already convicted). Why is this institute still open? timeshighereducation.com/news/french-pr… laprovence.com/article/region… leparisien.fr/faits-divers/m… The conspiracy-loving account @SciGuardians, quick to defend quacks, is notably silent about defending convicted harassers and researchers disregarding ethics. Even worse, the French government (@EmmanuelMacron @sup_recherche @stephanie_rist @FrenchResponse @Sante_Gouv @Senat) seems unconcerned that students are still being trained there — in an institute where scandals now seem more numerous than publications, many already tainted by misconduct. Eric Chabriere’s attacks against critics of hydroxychloroquine are seen as a sign of the social-media-induced radicalisation that has occurred during the pandemic” Sans oublier des affaires de harcèlement et d’agressions sexuelles (un chercheur déjà condamné).

Yet, there are plenty of war movies that are bad despite consulting, million$, ... A veteran commented on the new "Im Westen Nichts Neues": "they did stuff soldiers just don't do". I guess ai can be taught "sense" before most directors will learn it.
Dr. Alexander S. Burns@KKriegeBlog

The trouble is, many people interested in “War Cinema” want the past to be recreated in a visually accurate/realistic way. None of the soldiers are firing guns from the Normandy landings. None of the landing craft are historical. They aren’t fighting in ways that make sense.

@allangmiller1 @PeterDClack Amazing how many people don't understand the concept of "limiting factor". "CO₂ is a miracle molecule that turns sunlight into food" and here were me and my degree in agriculture thinking that is the work of the photosystems.

@PeterDClack CO2's great. However, at ~1000ppm it starts to cause performance impairment, hence this is the limit for 'good' air quality indoors. So what would be your plan for stopping it rising inexorably past that? "Yeah, we're not at our best, but look at these tomatoes!".

CO₂ is the unsung hero of life on Earth, powering the entire food web through photosynthesis and playing a foundational role from the planet's earliest days. This is its deep, wonder-filled contribution to the creation of free oxygen and rise of life. Without CO₂ Earth would most likely still be a lifeless world with a toxic atmosphere and lifeless oceans loaded with dissolved iron. CO₂ is a miracle molecule that turns sunlight into food, oxygen into breath and a rocky planet into today's blue-green paradise: CO₂ + water + sunlight = sugar energy + oxygen. Through photosynthesis, it has since transformed the whole world. The rise of DNA and all multicellular organisms like animals, all trace back to CO₂'s astonishing role in building the carbon backbone of life. One thing is certain, without CO₂ there would be no photosynthesis, no oxygen, no food chains and no us. The early cyanobacterial organisms floating in huge mats in the primordial oceans, released so much oxygen that it triggered the Great Oxidation Event. As oxygen permeated the oceans it began reacting with dissolved iron in the oceans, forming the vast banded iron formations, which are now the source of most of the world's iron ore reserves and current steel production.  Photosynthesis was embedded as chloroplasts within all plants, algae and phytoplankton, through a crucial evolutionary event called endosymbiosis. Larger eukaryotic cells engulfed the free-living cyanobacteria; it was a mutually beneficial and permanent, symbiotic relationship. Since then all plants, algae and phytoplankton create glucose energy from sunlight, water and nutrients in the soil—energy that now fuels everything on Earth from bacteria to blue whales. So the next time you eat a salad, bite into fruit or just breathe in—thank CO₂. Because it's not the villain, it's the unsung architect of life. #CO2 #Photosynthesis #Life
