Pretty amazing finding - new analysis from Scotland shows NO CASES OF CERVICAL CANCER in women vaccinated at 12 or 13 years of age. The HPV vaccine has been remarkably effective. Exactly what was expected, but nevertheless fantastic news. academic.oup.com/jnci/advance-a…

@maggiekb1 It used to be you had to step off a bus in the big city to get conned, now the scammers visit our homes 6-8 times per day. It's been a huge leap forward for the scam economy!

Am I nuts or has the U.S. become much more of a scam-based economy in the last decade? Between "investor university" grifts, drop shipping grifts, mlms ... even jobs that didn't used to be grifts now feel VERY grifty (real estate for example).

@CubicleApril Every git commit should include metadata with review comments and reviewers. I don't understand why this isn't standard.

Hi folks, Unfortunately I was affected by layoffs this morning, and I am looking for my next opportunity! Do you need a kickass, yet empathetic engineering leader? Drop me a message!

@Tagishsimon Thanks for your replies! I don't mean to discourage you from voicing opinions about how the foundations should prioritize work, only to make clear that volunteers are also welcome to step in and implement those priorities themselves should they choose.

The state of wikidata tools, in a nutshell. I did ask @nightrose if she fancied discussing this sort of thing, but I guess that's a no. This is Petscan, btw. Want to curate wikipedia articles w.r.t. wikidata? Tough break. It's really very discouraging.

@Tagishsimon WMDE and WMF staff do actively maintain some editing infrastructure, but staff support doesn't scale to the hundreds of bespoke editing tools that the community has created. These things ultimately live or die based on volunteer interest and support.

@the_transit_guy one of the very best parts about trains and other public transit is that you can drink without having to worry about safe driving. don’t understand stopping them at a time when maybe people are still out eating dinner.

Imagine spending $10 billion on an autonomous train that comes every 10 minutes and ends at 7 PM when Vancouver has the same technology and runs until midnight or later and comes every few minutes. Why does this country purposefully try to make transit inferior?”

After six decades of debate and nearly $10 billion spent, Honolulu’s Skyline rail finally launched this June. 🌈🚝 Come take a ride with me and learn the good, the bad, and the ugly of North America’s newest rapid transit system. 🧵

I just published a wildly over-researched article about a question that has been plaguing me for months: Why is this bridge here? tylervigen.com/the-mystery-of…

@alyssaharad Sorry to mansplain, I was briefly possessed with the spirit of my 5-year-old self. The monarch migration had a way-station in my backyard back then so telling people about butterflies was my main thing.

@alyssaharad But monarchs and most other butterflies don't make cocoons, they just pupate in front of god + everyone. Cocoons are more of a moth thing.

@alyssaharad A cocoon is a different thing -- cocoons /are/ made out of secreted silk that surrounds the caterpillar. But then once the caterpiller is tucked in this skin-splitting thing happens /inside/ the cocoon.

@RottenInDenmark Phillip Morris literally consumes human life for energy. Just because it used to run on pen and ink rather than silicon doesn't make it any less of a soulless run-away AI.

@RottenInDenmark There's no need to look to future or scifi for world-ending constructs when we already have oil companies which are literally destroying the world already.
