I love how the word 'atone' wears its heart on its sleeve. It began as 'at one', because to atone is to bring back unity. Atonement is really 'at-one-ment'. In the same way, 'alone' began as 'all one'.

The Trees (Philip Larkin) The trees are coming into leaf Like something almost being said; The recent buds relax and spread, Their greenness is a kind of grief. Is it that they are born again And we grow old? No, they die too. Their yearly trick of looking new Is written down in rings of grain. Yet still the unresting castles thresh In fullgrown thickness every May. Last year is dead, they seem to say, Begin afresh, afresh, afresh.

Research shows 56% of people with mental health problems still feel ashamed. And feeling shame stops people getting the help and support they need. #IfItsOkay to not be okay, help us tackle the stigma 👇 bit.ly/if-its-okay-x

It was announced today in the parish that (subject to the usual checks) I have been appointed House for Duty Rector of St Laurence, Appleton with Besselsleigh in wonderfully rural Oxfordshire. We move in July. In addition to parish duties, I will write poems and walk the dog.

Yup, AI generated art can be rubbish, but I'm still loving using it as a revision resource for literature. Talk through the picture and poem, link it to a line, explore metaphor/meaning... Here are some of my favourites... My Last Duchess:

I know of one cohort in one school 30 pupils had their AQA English Literature grades changed from remarks; one pupil even went from a 6 to a 9! Most schools / parents can't afford or don't want to risk the remark fee and so this is probably just the tip of the iceburg

This piece on @tes last week about exam re-marking, and who bears these costs certainly poses some interesting questions, especially for English and arts subjects - as the table below shows: tes.com/magazine/analy…

@Team_English1 Can anyone recommend a recent and good book/workbook for teaching grammar and punctuation for KS3 in the classroom?
